Me, too.  But, I’m hoping someone will share their breakfast casseroles and handmade ornamentsLaughing.

We usually have “Monkey Bread” on Thanksgiving/Christmas morning.  Easy to prepare the night before and pop in the oven in the morning.  Oooohh, the smell is so good.

I will get the breakfast casserole recipe that my mom makes every year for Christmas….She has been doing it since I was a kid.  It is so easy, and she makes it the night before.  It is delicious!!

What lovely ideas shared here!  I’m taking notes:)  Only thing different I have to add is we’re gathering friends/members of our homeschool group to sing carols at our town’s nursing home for their family Christmas dinner…residents love to see the children! Oh, and if anyone has a good ‘recipe’ for choc. chip cookie mix in a mason jar, please share.  I received one once and thought it would be a great gift and fun for the kids to make:)  Blessings, Gina

We do Monkey Bread also….only on Christmas morning so it’s a special treat.  My children were not allowed to open presents till I got the bread in the oven.  They got smart and the next year they got up early to make the bread so we could open presents sooner.  lol!!  Now it’s a tradition for the kids to get up and make the bread.

Our children grew up knowing that Santa was not real, but we did talk about St. Nicholas and how Santa came out of this tradition.  So we do have stockings that are from Santa/St.Nicholas.  Even if we open presents on Christmas Eve, the stocking is not given till Christmas morning.  Although all my children know that Santa is not real…they like pretending anyways and as long as they knew the truth I don’t mind playing along.  Most of my kids are teenagers and still like to pretend there is a Santa.  🙂

An easy and inexpensive gift that my girls like to make for friends is what we called Tissue Paper Picture Frames.  The girls find the favorite colors of their friends and  decoupage tissue paper on a picture frame.  We buy the frames at the dollar store.  My girls took these to a craft fair to show a friend who does crafting and others walking by liked them so much they were willing to pay at least $12 for one.

I love the idea of doing something for each of the 25 days leading up to Christmas….I think we are going to do that this year.

Do you think that maybe we should put the food and ornament ideas in a different post so that they are not sprinkled in here and there?  This post is getting nice and long, and I’m enjoying it quite a lot.  I just don’t want to miss any great ideas.Laughing

What great ideas! We have many ideas. I think the best idea I have is ask your child what his favorite thing is that he wants. Then go for that. They don’t care about anything else anyway. My saying is Jesus had only 3 gifts and what is good enough for him is good enough for us. Why make it a wall of presents? Well, we started celebrating Hanakkah. This is more of donuts and goodies to make. Candles to light. It puts you in a very good mood. I also don’t feel the rush of the holiday. Everything was more laid back. I am finding kids would rather do things and be with you then do tons of presents anyway. We use to do a ornament every year that had to do with our childrens growth. If they were into skating that year then we would by them a skate to hang on the tree. If they were into an instrument then we would hang it up. It was alot of fun. It seems paring it down has made it more fun! 🙂
