I got this on Friday, and have really been enjoying it! =) I have read the first story to the girls, and it was enjoyed, but it took the place of our lit reading that day. (We read Lit as family time before bed…then daddy is a part of it)Does anyone else use this book on a reular basis, and can you give me some pointers on when, and how you use it? Is there a set time? Do you read it daily? Is it during nature study time only? Just looking for ideas!! =)
We love this book too! OK, one of my sons needed a little coaxing to love it, but still. 🙂
We have found that really, Parables of Nature is not exactly a nature study book. It’s really a moral lesson/literature type of book. So we always slot it as that, and not as nature study. (My science crazy boys would pitch fits if that was all our nature study!)
Also, for my kids this has not been the easiest book to listen to that we do. We did not read it every day. If we had to break one story up, we’d read a bit each day until we finished, but I’d often then take a break of a week before we’d pick up another story. Some of the stories required a lot of concentration from ME! 🙂 and we found we liked it better if we had something less challenging to read in between.
I also really love the audio recording of this on CD. That way we’ve all been able to listen to it together, and I’ve caught my “I don’t think I like this book” child listening again to a few of the stories. 🙂 (Shh, don’t tell!)
Hope this helps and you get lots of opinions on this classic!
