  • We just read the first chapter of Pagoo and I sure hope it gets better! I thought it was boring and dry and I really expected more of a history subject. Did I get the wrong book to use for a living history book? My 6 yr old dd is an awesome narrator but even she did poorly with the material. I looked ahead and it doesn’t look to pick up. Am I completely wrong here?
    Thanks!

Yes, for us it definitely got better.  We read Pagoo 2 years ago and my dd still remembers parts of it.  It inspired a love of all things hermit crab in our home…she types as she sits near the aquarium of 3 happy little crabs :).  Hang in there!…unless of course you end up still not loving it in a week or so, but I think it should pick up fast.  We hated it at first as well :)!!

Pagoo isn’t really a history book – more of a science book.  It describes life in a tidepool.  The beginning, if I remember correctly, is a little “technical” talking about the growth process from egg to hermit crab.  Eventually Pagoo (the hermit crab) encounters other creatures in the tide pool and in the process we learn about them:  anemones, octopus, etc.
