Wondering if those who are familiar with Paddington bear if the stories are well done. I was only able to read a little of one on amazon. If they are well done, how many stories are there by the original author? If they are quality books to read to my children, then I was looking for a collection, like one book with all the stories or a box set but haven’t been successful in finding one that I know of, but then again I don’t know anything about Paddington or how many there are. 🙂 Any help would be appreciated!
I has five complete stories in it and lists only Michael Bond as the author (some new ones list multiple authors). It has classic stories in it but also has illustrations. They are like paintings or maybe charcoal drawings? Very beautiful illustrations nonetheless.
If you want more of storybook, I do think this one is classic. It has an original copyright of 1978.
And then I was blessed to find a free library-bound volume of “A Bear Called Paddington” on the pick-up day at our local curriculum sale. It is the original 1958 story but was printed in 1986. Oddly enough, it is in BRAND NEW condition. And I found it for free, which just made me smile!
I can’t wait to read it with our littles once we finish The House at Pooh Corner. We are reading these at bedtime and sometimes in the afternoon. Just finished a chapter in the House at Pooh Corner.
The original stories (well, the one book we have) is quite well done… I think like “Winnie the Pooh”, there are a lot of them out there that were done later that are twaddle…
I think the first book was called “A Bear Called Paddington”
I’ve read A Bear Called Paddington, but nothing else yet. It is on our literature list for next school year, because Paddingtion was a favorite of one of my relatives (since she also loves Thorton Burgess, I figured this should be good too!) So far from what I’ve seen, it is well written. We have a treasury (by Michael Bond) I found at a used bookstore. I didn’t know there were anymore than what he’s written so I’m interested to hear what others say.
We love these stories. I have an audio of the first one, A Bear called PAddington. Mine started listening to it around ages 10 and roared with laughter. They are definitely in the same vein and quality of Pooh.
Thank you for all the help! LDImom, thank you for the link. I think I will buy that as long as they are the entire stories and not abridged. Do those 5 stories include the first one A Bear Called Paddington? It doesn’t show on the amazon page. Just figuring out if I would need to get the first one as a seperate book and then the collection to read after that. Thank you!
Check out the official Paddington Bear website to learn a lot about which books the author has done. We own several and love them. Got most of ours on Paperback Swap.
