I was reading somewhere that they had there children read the Ourselves book I believe Vol 4 around 10-12th grade, dependent on each child. Anyone else ever do this?
Why do I see only the 4th book read places by the students? How big of a book is it? Thanks I was thinking to have my to be 10th grader start reading it next year.
Ourselves is really very different from her other volumes. It is not about education but is more like a users manual for your mind. I read some of it aloud to my kids ages 7-12. For reading on their own is definitely say middle school or sbove.
There are 6 volumes and they deal with the methodology and philosophies of a CM education. It has a combination of theory and practical. I’m not sure how much your kids would get out of it at this point (unless you really want them to see the how and why of what you are doing). Their titles are “Formation of Character”, “Parents and Children”, “Home Education”, “School Education” and “A Philosophy of Education”.
“Ourselves” is written directly to the student about things like not being slothful, developing good habits, etc. They can easily read it on their own, but I chose to read it with her so we could talk about it more. It is about 200 pages.
Slightly OT for this thread: I read the subject line of this thread in the forum list, thought it meant something, then read the first post & realized it was about Charlotte Mason’s volume….I had a “duh” moment, as my kids would say.
I thought Tristan’s little boy had made some cute, quote-worthy comment about their family…..um, I guess I was wrong….ROFL!
