I am thinking of getting this for my own education as I had minuscule instruction in grammar when I was at school.  Would you say it covers everything I would ever need to know with regard to grammar?

If it makes sense to me then I will consider using it for my dd when she is in 7th or 8th grades. She is currently in 6th grade.

I think it is perfect for your situation! You will be well equipped and so will your daughter.

I would definitely use it for myself first if I felt I needed to (and I probably do!).  It is a small workbook/guide and doesn’t have the feel of a reg. textbook so you could take it with you on errands so when you have a chance to read it you can.  I may do the same thing before handing it off to my ds who will begin to use it in Aug.

I’ve still not decided if this is what I should use with my 7th grader this year or not. Everyone I know has used either Growing with Grammar or Simply Grammar.  We’ve not done anything really formal.  We read Grammarland, have done some Queen’s LL and ILL, but he still has trouble keeping adverbs and adjectives straight.  We’ve been doing some mad libs as a means of helping him remember without the pressure. I seem to think he may need more than OMT.  I’M just not sure if we should try something else first, then use this as a refresher when he’s in high school.

Actually, 4myboys, OMT might be perfect for your son right now. Have you looked at it? Although it seems like you’re not spending very much time on each subject (adjectives and adverbs each get about four pages) you are using that knowledge for the remainder of the book so you are getting lots of practice. We are going to go ahead and do OMT with my 6th and 7th grader because they both want to do diagramming. Go figure! My 7th grader remembers diagramming a little bit in 3rd grade and said that it is fun. We have not done anything formal for grammar either. This will be our one and only formal grammar course, spread out over 2 years.

    Thanks everyone!

Would OMT be suited for a high school, particularly 12th grade, grammar study?

    Thanks,

I think it’s an excellent choice!
