The authors varied. (and I suspect the reading level might a bit…)
They can be read online for free at Heritage History (well, several of them – not all of the series are there) – and can be bought for about $2 each there as well (in ebook format)
I would guess about grade 4 or 5 for a reading level. My DD7 reads them independently, but her reading skills are advanced. DD has read Athenian, Roman, and Spartan Cousins, all by Julia Cowles. DD didn’t like “Our Little Cartheginian Cousin”, which was by a different author and had some scenes that disturbed her. Something about a girl being mistreated. I didn’t think it was a big deal myself, but she refused to finish the book. She just started Celtic Cousin yesterday, and seems to be enjoying it as well as the others.
