    I just wanted to share this powerful short 3 min video on what happens when a typical person who doesn’t consume a lot of sugar all of a sudden does.  Unfortunately, 1/2 or better of american children wake and do this.  Eat a poptart, drink OJ, and then follow it with a pop on the way out the door to school.

    Just look how amazing our body and is how bad and quickly we can destroy it. 🙁  God gives us life.  Let’s take care of it!

    I wish they had separated the different foods.  Is a banana really the same to your body as a 20oz Coke?  I doubt it.  So in doing it this way they don’t show us WHAT caused the clumping of red blood cells.  Maybe it was the total level of sugar, as they want us to believe, but maybe it was the HFCS in the soda or maybe it was whatever is in PopTarts.  And what does his blood look like after a protein and fat meal?

    I love viewing/reading anti-sugar things bc I’m trying to break my love affair with it and it helps me to be able to resist when I have images and knowledge to support my reasons.  I do wish this were done more scientifically so I could know what it really means.

    I haven’t watched either video. It is true that a banana can spike blood sugar and cause an insulin response just like a soda can. Fruit sugar, high fructose corn syrup, white sugar, etc. all cause blood sugar responses, pack on weight, and can have an ill effect on health. As the body processes sugar, whether from a banana, a coke, or a candy bar, the chemical response is the same: blood sugar spikes, insulin is secreted, cortisol is needed to bring insulin down.

    If you want to avoid the blood sugar spikes caused by the very sweetest fruits (bananas, grapes, mangoes, pineapple) it is best to consume them with some sort of fat. Fat stabilizes blood sugar and minimizes the insulin response. So a banana with almond or peanut butter is preferable to a banana by itself. Obviously, candy bars and cokes have other bad ingredients that bananas do not have–and those should be avoided–however, from a sugar standpoint, the body’s response is the same to all sugar.
