In the book Beyond Antibiotics, the authors claim that studies show that if antibiotics are given for strep within the first 48 hrs. actually increase the risk of a recurrent infection by teo to eight times (from my book Mommy Diagnostics-Shonda Parker, Professional Family Herbalist).
Besides, antibiotics make you weak against soething else that comes along.
Also, I just thought of this: they give ultra strong antibiotics now compared to when you were young and if your children are having diarrhea from it, then it’s probably too strong. For other children-those accustomed to taking antibiotics-it may not have this type of affect.
Diarrhea can be caused by the anti-biotics. High probiotics and 1 tsp. bentonite clay per cup of water=1 dose given after last bout of diarrhea, not to be given more than 4 doses (from MOmmy Diagnostics)
Though I try not to stop diarrhea, as it’s the body’s method of expelling the bad stuff; however, I always give 1-2 cups of warmed bone broth (preferably free-range chicken) with extra garlic and salt daily when sick with anything. The gelatin is good for the intestinal lining and the rest is good for immunity. Also, soothing to the throat. If it’s caused from the drugs, then it may not stop and if it were me, and mine aren’t staying hydrated, then I’d try to at least slow it down or stop it.
They need electrolytes. Natural ones are: kombucha and water kefir (though will sting the throat); I think young coconut water is your very best choice that won’t hurt the throat (and you can buy this at the store).
Also, gargling with colloidal silver or buying a spray. Also, taking 1 tsp. a day for their immunity.
If you are a so-called carrier, then you should be giving yourself more probiotics and taking supplements to boost your immune system. Goldenseal is for bacteria, only take for 7 days, echinecea for viral and over-all immunity, take for 3 weeks at a time. Garlic pills and cloves- for both viral and bacterial. Vit. C increase, 250-500 mg. at a time 2-3 times a day for prevention. Peppermint tea would be good from what I’ve read.
If your children are under ten, then I’d recommend the Herbs for Kids Echinecea/Goldenroot tincture for their immune system. GOldenroot is for bacterial and echinecea will help with over-all immunity and inflammation.
Let us know how they are coming along.
