My mom has developed RLS and it’s keeping her awake. She hates going to the doctor and taking medicine, so I thought I’d research some options. I’m just starting to look into this, but if you have any suggestions of things to look into, I’d love to hear it.
Well….(of course, I have to say this)….I’m no doctor and I’ve only researched this myself online, but I have been taking Horse Chestnut (I purchase it here) for a couple of months to improve leg circulation. I was having leg cramps and foot cramps at night, along with some discoloration along my shins that indicated compromised leg circulation. After taking it for two days, I had no cramps and have not had any since. My legs have returned to normal coloration as well, plus the thinning hair on my legs has been growing in thicker and faster. (Could have done without that improvement, but–oh, well–back to shaving more often!)
Granted, this may not be the symptoms of RLS that your mom is having exactly, but while doing my research a few months ago, I did see Horse Chestnut mentioned in connection with that, so you may want to look into that. One caution, though, is that I occasionally experience nausea after I take it which lasts for 20 minutes or so. That has only occurred 2 or 3 times in the past two months.
Magnesium! Epsom salts, topical magnesium gel, or a good magnesium supplement. A quick google search will find you lots of info if you’re interested. Americans tend to be deficient due to depleted agricultural soils, phytic acid, poor diet…
