Well the day has come. My ds3 has pin worms, which means dd5 and dd6m probably do too. I am going to treat them naturally, using diatomaceous earth and lots of probiotics, apple cider vinegar, and a salve of coconut oil and garlic on their hineys at night.

    Any one have any tips?

I have washed all our bedding and disinfected every handle/knob, light switch and toilet. I plan to do all this every morning.

Please pray for the process. I will up date in 90 days (how long you have to do the DE to completely be sure to break the cycle) to let you know if it works.

You can alternate bentonite clay w/ the diatomaceous earth. It will grab hold of those suckers too and help with detoxification. Also, don’t be surprised if some other parasites come out as well. We’ve seen liver flukes, tapeworm, and roundworm in the past.

Some other anti-parasitics are Black Walnut tincture, Wormwood complex, and oil of oregano. Often you have to use one for a week-10 days, then switch to something else for the same period, then switch again. It’s weird how those things seem to get immune to herbs and stuff after a while.

Thanks Lindsey.. Yeah from what I’ve read they agave built up Immunities to the chemicals much like lice have. Both kids suck their thumbs and during flu season I’m crazy about them washing their hands but I have slacked in that department with the arrival of summer.

I guess you could say that the only doen side to a CM education is that they play outside in the dirt more and can get worms.

Yes, playing in the dirt can introduce worms, but it also has a host of beneficial, immune-building properties. I believe the benefits of playing in the dirt far outweigh the risks. Parasites are tricky, but they are pretty easy to treat in kids. FYI, you and your husband probably need to go through some parasite cleansing as well. Rule #1 of parasites is that if one family member has them, all family members probably do because of the close contact. It’s icky!

Curious, if you don’t mind me asking how did you know they had them?

We are all going to be treated! I have no desire for this to continue!

Misty, my son kept coming out of bed 2 nights ago because his bottom and tummy hurt and he had to poop. I’ve and over and over. Same thing last night. Well at 10:30, 3hoirs after bed time, I was like let’s see if diaper cream helps because he said his butt itched. Well took a flash light because the room wasn’t well lit to see if he was raw from pooping so much and we could see little while worms wiggling!

The females crawl out of the anus at night to lay eggs so that is what we saw. The child won’t usually show symptoms during the day. It’s only at bed time.

Pinworms are so annoying! I’ve had them as an adult! Talk about embarassing! Our kids have never complained about their bottoms itching at night, and I ask them quite a bit, just to be sure.

I don’t KNOW that our children have parasites or worms or anything, but since we live on a farm and they’re outside a lot, I figured it was time to do something.  So I bought Pedia Para-Free from Nature’s Warehouse.  Have any of you used it?

Lindsey, you said about switching each week.  The directions my bottle say to use for 21 days and then a break for a month.  Do you have a differing experience?

I was reading a lot of different articles/blogs and people who lived on farms said they did a cleanse every 6m

Karen, I think 3 weeks is probably ok. But then you need to break from it or switch to a different weapon. Also, it’s important to space out the anti-parasitics and probiotics. I don’t know if there’s evidence for this, but it makes sense to me that the anti-parasitic might have negative effects on the probiotics. So we’ve always taken anti-parasitics as directed and take the probiotics an hour or two before or after. Unfortunately, I have lots if experience with parasites. 🙁 I did an 8-week protocol before I stopped “eliminating” worms last year. Ick.

I don’t know if this is as thorough as all the cleansing stuff, but it sure was a lot easier. My naturopath gave us some homeopathics for pinworms. It’s called VER by DesBio. Worked great. We have used it to remove other parasites too. Very easy, just drops under the tongue. I think we did it three weeks, but it may have been longer. It’s been a while.

I’ve had pinworms as an adult too (and my husband). We had no idea what it was at first–it was before kids. We went to Kroger at 3:00am to get diaper rash ointment for ourselves. I’m sure they wondered where the baby with the rash was!

    Good luck.

Yesterday evening was the first round of diatomaceous earth (DE) and then again today and this evening dd3 has no itching or signs of the worms! Which means he is in bed sleeping and not crying! I’m amazed at how fast it has worked

Kayla ~ What diatomaceous earth did you use and how did you give it to him?

My husband works at a garden center here and they carry food grade. It is Saint Gabriel’s, organic and food grade. We are doing 1T a day for my husband and me. 1t a day for the 5 and 3 year olds and 1/4t for the 6m old. I am mixing it in apple sauce or smoothies. My kids don’t get juice ever so I could probably mix it in there and they wouldn’t even know. The 3 year old is the only one who has shown signs of them but I have no desire to deal with this again so everyone is being treated.
