    Anyone who suffers from migraines: have you tried Petadolex? I just bought some after taking advice from a friend. She promises I’ll see immediate results. Hoping to hear more success stories! I just started taking them yesterday after suffering from a 4 day (with 2 days break in between) migraine episode. Mine are most likely from hormones. They come on like clockwork each month. I also get vertigo with migraines, some months worse than others, some months with none at all. Not fun.

    I am feeling minor nausea even after having ate breakfast first, so hoping that goes away with taking these longer.

    No, I have not tried this particular brand, although I did try butterbur extract early on.  I hope you have success, it’s always worth trying safe herbal preps first, but there is NO ONE thing that is going to cure EVERY person’s migraine.  Migraines are not all the same.  I have suffered with them for over  thirty years and have tried just about everything, including things my friends promised me would work 🙂  The only things that consistently work for me are two prescriptions, one I have to take every day and one I take at onset.  And when my insurance quit covering that one, it took us quite a while to work out a combo that would work again.  Sigh.  So I hope you have luck and see relief–but I’m NOT going to guarantee it!

    I haven’t tried it but whenever I hear someone has migraines I like to recommend the book Heal Your Headache. It really helped me understand my headaches and why sometimes one thing makes them worse and another time it doesn’t.

    Mine are monthly–2 days normally sometimes 4 days on a bad month. So I am avoiding prescription meds at all costs. I use lavender on my neck and temples as well. I’ll look at that book as well. I saw a summary and am totally opposed to taking antidepressants. Frown I’ll see what else he says though.

    Well, you might want to explore but keep an open mind, pinkballerina.  I sometimes have 3-4 headaches a week, sometimes worse at different times of the month but pretty much all the time, and when taking an antidepressant cut that to one to two a week, I pretty much treated it like a full-on miracle.  I TRIED a lot of things first, but the burden of feeling like that for three or four days a week was very heavy, and very hard on me and my family.  I haven’t grown any horns or wings or turned purple, so I’m taking the slight drowsiness as a fair trade-off.  🙂  Sometimes, it seems to me when we say “I am totally opposed to this” that’s when some slightly wacky principle of life takes over and answers “Oh, yeah?”  🙂

    Im opposed to antidepressants because they can worsen or cause depression. I was told this by a therapist and chiro and have read this. I also have a cousin who went off of them (took for depression) because of side effects. I am glad it has helped you but I am exploring the natural route. I almost had a dr put me on some if I wanted, she said. But after prayer a therapist pointed me to a chiro who helped me find out my symptoms were caused by hypoglycemia. I could have aggravated and made things worse. 🙁

    I’ve had these for 20 years and it doesn’t affects lifestyle. I can exercise through them but make sure I rest the days I have them. I would describe mind more as pressure. I don’t get sick or have to be in a dark room. So the less invasive the treatment the better. Im not willing to make symptoms worse or experience new ones, kwim?

    I’m so sorry to hear each of you suffers with these awful headaches. It’s terrible that these are so darn common, but good that we can work together to help each other out.

    I have had migraines also, since I was a teen. However I was almost 40 before they were diagnosed. I then took Maxalt MLT (meltable tablets) at the first sign of one coming on, along with up to six ibuprofen – usually the onset never came, but I had a slightly groggy feeling afterward, almost the same as if it had run its course anyway. Certainly not awful after having had so many all those years. Mine were definitely hormonal but also exasperated by food.

    When I went off gluten, sugar, wheat, dairy, salt, soy, and meat in February, my migraines left, too. Once (just last week timely enough) I had some take out food with company (a shrimp basket with fries) and within 20 minutes, I could barely see or hear from the migraine pain. I no longer take any prescriptions (due to my new-found stance on chemicals and big pharma), so I rested and drank plenty of water, as well as OD’d on broccoli. Headache was reduced in several hours, then gone the next day, but still that drowsy residual fog. That is the only headache I’ve had in all these months, but I used to have them weekly at least if not daily for about 18 years.

    I never in a bazillion years would have believed that food choices could really cure me of that awful pain, but I’m convinced now.

    There are also other alternative things you can try (if you haven’t already). My ds had a headache that lasted 2 years. We tried two neurologists and they had him on tons of meds (12 pills a day and he was only 10yo at the time) which also had side effects. He finally got relief through a combo of acupuncture and homeopathic medicine. I have come to believe doctors just don’t know a lot about headaches. They have a list of medicines to try, usually ones that were created for other problems like seizures and high blood pressure, and they just go through them hoping to find one that works.

    Tara, I also have hormonal migraines. They used to come at any time of the month, but now they have a distinct cycle before the beginning of the cycle and at ovulation.

    I have an Imitrex prescription that I use, but I am working towards eliminating them herbally and with food choices, esp. at that time of the month. I began my Progesterone Cream regimen (my tests showed low prog. ) and this was the second month and I definitely had a distinct reduction in migraine acitivity; I think just one – the day prior to Day 1. That’s down dramatically.

    Magnesium deficiency is common for us. Feverfew can help some. Stay away from chemical and preservatives in food. Extra B vitamins are needed.

    It has feverfew, magnesium, B-2, B-6, and chasteberry, which is well known for it’s hormone balancing capabilities. My diet and stress levels make a huge difference.

    I didn’t get migraines but I did get hormonal headaches. For me it was low progesterone. Although if they are showing up at different points during the cycle it can easily be from liver congestion as it has to process all the hormones. Milk thistle is my first go to for tthat.

    Yes, Hiddne Jewel, thanks for bringing that up. I meant to and forgot. The liver is instrumental in hormone management. Milk Thistle and Dandelion are both excellent liver cleansers.

    I also began my perpetual kombucha making (and drinking of course!) these past 2 months and it is a liver tonic and provides additional B vits. as well.

    I have started an over the counter progesterone cream mainly for PMS symptoms. Also recommended by my friend who has worked with herbs for 20 years. I had no irritablity after using for the first month! Was hoping it’d help the headache but alas I still got one. I will look into the herbal suggestions and ask her about these after I see how Petadolex works. I read it starts right away in first month. She said to give it 3-6 mos
