In our family, we do small, informal family birthday parties….we keep it low-key and family only.

To make up for this (and keep my stress-level low), at another time during the year, my 10yo daughter and I host a “book club” for the girls in her grade from our homeschooling group.  One year they all shared their favorite book, another year they all read the same book and then we had the author (an extended family member) meet and speak informally with the girls.  (There are about 6 girls that are the same age as my daughter, so it’s a nice, small event.)

Now my 8yo daughter wants in on this. Smile  But I need some ideas!  My 8yo daughter enjoys stories, but doesn’t read well, and she’s not as into books as my oldest daughter.  She enjoys being outside with our dogs, bunnies, chickens, cows….She likes swinging and climbing trees….She ejoys some board games and card games….She enjoys crafting with paper…

There is only 1 girl in her grade from our homeschool group.  She gets along very well with that one girl, so I suppose I could just have her over for some kind of extra-fun playdate.  There are also 3 boys in her grade, so we could invite them too, and plan something that would be enjoyable to all of them.

Any ideas??? I am NOT an outside person and I am NOT athletic — so I’m really feeling just sort of puzzled about what kind of a “party” we could host for my 8yo daughter.

    Thanks in advance!

    I’ll bump you up:)

I’ll just share what we’ve done. We generally try to have a family gathering one year and friend party the next. As my kids have gotten older the friend parties are much easier(generally just happy to hang out and have pizza and cake, swim at our neighborhood pool, watch a movie, etc.) I don’t do all the decorating, party games, favors I used to. Rather than have several friends over sometimes my daughter has chosen to do something more special with just one or two…I’ve taken then to dinner/shopping(gets to use her bday $$). But my daughter is older….

Maybe yours would enjoy taking the one girl to lunch and a zoo or other fun outing? Low key planning wise and fun:)

Don’t know if that helps or not….just what we generally do;)

thanks!  I”m open to all ideas at this point. *L*

And I just found out that we’re gaining two more families in our homeschool group – so there might be some girls her age in that.  Which will have an impact on what we do, I guess.

I hate planning these thigns! I am so NOT a planner – unless we’re talking about school…then I can plan and plan and plan!

If you invite boys you must have food!  How about a Mystery Luncheon?  This has ALWAYS been a hit and it is nothing you are not already accustomed to doing (preparing food).  PM me if you want more details.
