My children decided to act out the Christmas Story yesterday, I wrote down some of their lines and spent all day chuckling over it – thought some of you would enjoy it too! (Cast is wrapped appropriatly in blankets as follows: DS8 as Joseph, DD6 as Mary with baby doll, DS2 as The Donkey)
“I fear the baby is coming soon!” Mary announces.
Joseph grumbles.
“Put on your best clothes and pack the donkey!” said Mary in earnest.
More grumbling from Joseph, something about how he doesn’t want to go.
“The empire said we must go.” Mary says placidly.
“When’s the baby going to be born? At nine o’clock?” asks Joseph growing more serious.
“I don’t know. Maybe very soon, dear Joseph.” replies Mary.
Baby Jesus is placed in a manager (stool tipped upside down)
“His name is Jesus, He’ll rule over the people.” Mary declares.
“We can’t tell the king!” said Joseph.
Joseph now decides the family should leave and tells Mary to put the baby on thedonkey’s back. (DS2 is crawling on all fours). The donkey is carefully padded and the Babyplaced gently on top. At which point the donkey loses all patience and bolts.
“Donkey, donkey! Stop! Bad donkey!! Back to the stable!” Mary wails in despair. The donkey is now galloping freely across the countryside and Joseph goes after himbrings him back and Mary refuses to put the Baby back on the donkey, despite Joseph’s insistence.
“I love Him too much! I’d much rather carry Him.” Mary pleads.
“Fine.” Joseph sighs in resignation.
At which point the Holy Family leaves the room and returns as….camels. No idea whatever happened to that donkey. Poor creature.
