I remember this discussed a long time ago but can’t find it. My DD is almost 11 and needing something for pre-acne. She’s got little bumps on her face that are all skin color (not red, no white or black heads) but I figure if we don’t get on top of this it will turn into more. I made something quite a while back from honey but I wasn’t totally satisfied with it. I want something that is natural, gentle and actually works. Any great recommendations or advice?
I wash my face with a combination of raw honey and Dr. Bronner’s liquid Castile soap. Then I moisturize with 5 drops of sweet almond oil and 2 drops of frankincense essential oil. My face has never looked better!
Oh- charcoal soap. I get mine from Rose of Sharon Acres – just google that. It’s under their “Dead Sea Soaps” category. It’s black, gentle, and yet effective at helping acne, rosacea, it calms down inflamation, it’s great stuff.
(I also like their tooth spritzes instead of tooth paste.)
By the way, my 10 year old has the same thing – I’ve been trying to get her to use my charcoal soap, but she keeps forgetting……this is such a hard age to be at!
Hubby & I both love Earth Mama Angle Baby’s Foaming Baby Wash. One pump is all you need and after the first bottle, you can purchase the larger refill bottle which refills it 5 times. 1 refill lasts the 2 of us over a year. I have dry and very sensitive skin and hubby is on the oily side. It works great for both of us. It smells lovely and has ZERO toxins.
Origins sells a wonderful and effective charcoal mask and their Modern Friction scrub is amazing but, pricey. So I make my own scrub… Ground organic oatmeal mixed with a bit of honey and warm water. (Skip the water if you want more exfoliation, skip the honey if you want less exfoliation).
This is a link to the refill… Cheapest I have yet to see it. Just added some to my own cart.
Thanks all for your input. Everyone has such great ideas! Wish we all could just know that our products were good for us.
JenniferM – that sounds interesting. We may have to try it just to see what it does . . . I can just imagine my DD reaction to telling her we are putting potato juice on her face!! =)
LindseyD – the face wash you use sounds like the one I made. I thought it would be good for an already clear face ’cause it didn’t seem to make any difference for clearing her face. I may still make more. What does the frankicense do?
Karen – I just ordered this soap and a couple of other things off of Rose of Sharon Acres. Thanks. Their products look great. We’re out of town for another week and I am hoping that it will get to our place about the same time we do.
BlessedMommy – I may have to order some of this soap for my girls to use in the shower. My youngest has very dry skin and it would probably do her good to get something that I know is free of toxins. I think I will make your scrub and see how we like it. Do you just use regular oatmeal? I would imagine if I put it in the blender it would turn to flour. Is this okay or do you grind it a different way? Thanks so much!
If you get the soap for your daughters, seriously, give it a try on your face. It works great! And I put the oatmeal in my food processor so it is basically a flour but, much courser than store bought oat flour. I just use organic rolled oats that I get in the bulk section at my health food store.
Frankincense is a fabulous essential oil. It can help wounds heal faster, balance hormones, and is wonderful for skin health in general.
In my experience, skin issues are almost always an outward manifestation of what’s going on in the digestive system. If there is a hang-up in digestion, be it through leaky gut, food intolerances, candida overgrowth, constipation, etc., it manifests in the skin. In healing my gut, my skin was the first thing to clear up. And not just the skin on my face. I never struggled with face acne, but would have a breakout or two around my time of the month. But as I got older, I had a lot of breakouts on my back. Now, I never get a pimple anywhere. I stay away from inflammatory foods, focus on continuing to heal my gut, and reap the benefits of beautiful skin.
