Hello all, I am looking for some info on how you practiacally treat your kids allergies natrally. I have found some info online, but mostly recomendations on herbs. But how do you get the herbs into your kids? My kids have very minor allergies and we didn’t even know they had allergies untill our new pediatritian mentioned it and gave them a prescription. What do you all do for your kids allergies that doesn’t involve zertec or allegra? TIA.
We’ve found results for seasonal allergies with lemon, peppermint, and lavender essential oils. I just mix them in a little bottle ( can mix with coconut/olive/almond oil for sensitive skin/to dilute; and put a dab on their wrists or behind ear (you can put it on the big toes as well, but it feels cold from the peppermint!). Bigger kids can put it in capsules and swallow or a shot of water or juice, but I just do it under my tongue.
Heatherma–is there a certain brand or website from which you purchase your oils? I have heard so much about the varying qualities of oils but wasn’t sure where to begin. Thank you!
I also do the essential oils, and my husband has found it very helpful. We have been really pleased with Heritage Essential Oils http://heritageessentialoils.com/ I know people who do the doterra, but this is much more cost effective for us.
Misty, I have yet to venture in to making my own (I know I can, I’m busy making sunscreen and laundry detergent) but the one I buy from a local herbalist called Aller-free has: schizandra, elder flower, cubeb, milk thistle, marshmallow, poke root, fo ti, hyssop, thyme, tribulus, anise seed, black pepper, ginger. 1:5 alcohol, water 50:50
I am on the east coast of central Florida (about 20 min south of cape canaveral) so I ln pretty sure this is configured for this area. I would think you could find a recipe for your area online. I know as soon as I start getting stuffy from blooming plants this drys it up quick.
On a comple side note, just found a recipe for pickled garlic! So you can eat it raw and get all the benefits without dieing from how spicy it is! I pinned it and I can’t wait to start it (it takes about 8 weeks)
Oh and my midwife said when she makes chicken broth in the crock pot she adds herbs to that. More of the immunity boosting type, so it’s like super chicken broth! Perfect for cold and flu season!
My husband has been off zyrtec for 3 months now by using the neti pot and lavender essiental oil. He does the neti pot rinse daily and puts a drop of lavender eo behind his ears. We either use Mountain Rose Herbs EO or the Acui Caria (sp) at whole foods. These herbs are great. There are some MLM companies that boast there brands to be more pure and ok for ingesting but essiental oils were not meant to be ingested. They are too potent. Topical application or just inhaling them will work great.
I buy herbs from Bulk Herb STore (cough tea works great for sinus trouble and colds). I make the tea, bu my girls dont’ like to drink it. So I made tincture from it (fill a quart jar half-full of herbs and then fill it with vodka and let it sit for 3 – 6 weeks). I give them 1/4 teaspoon of the tincture a couple times a day or on the hour, if they are sick or fighting sickness.
