Thanks for all the info ladies! Just sprung $60 for an inspection of my home to take place tomorrow afternoon! Hoping it’s nothing serious! Luckily, Kelsey’s lungs and both of our allergies seem a little better today.

    Linda,

Where is a good place to ask about where I could find a good and reputable mold inspector, etc! Thanks for the help!

I want to add that it may even be your roof or your windows.  My dearest friend had an undetected leak in her roof. She didn’t know that it was pouring down the inside of the wall. It wasn’t until a terriable storm one year that it showed up. They finally found it when the wall started to come in.  I have also noticed that it can be around a window pain. It can be in the incelation.  Water comes in and you may never even know it was the window.  Another thing is behind the tub liner. It could also be behind the faucets especially if you don’t have them tight. Could also be your shower curtain or rubber holding your tub.  If you have a crawl space instead of a basement that is another biggie!  Another close friend just spent thousands of dollars getting rid of the mold in her crawl space.  She had a drain spout on one side of the house cause that.  It also showed up in her bathroom on her walls. That was because she didn’t have an moisture airvent properly working. She had a window in her tub area but that just created more problems.

That being said… Are you on a special mold diet? You mentioned that you cleaned with vinegar.  Vinegar is a fermented product. “A Mold”  If you are highly allergic to mold then you shouldn’t be using vinegar.  My son is allergic to mold. We must eliminate vinegar from his diet.  He can’t have Ketchup, pickles, mustard, Anything with High Fruitcose Corn Syrup, (It is also fermented).  Bread-  It has Yeast which is a mold. Maybe you should google” Mold diet”  and see what you should be eating.

I know this because I had been told by my doctor that you  don’t have to have a special diet. I was told by a few moms that live by me that have mold allergies that she is dead wrong.  So, I did the research myself and I was shocked at all the foods he couldn’t have because they have to do with mold.  After I stopped these foods in his diet I noticed that he was getting much better. Now we can pinpoint his triggers better.  Another thing for us was Milk.  The cows eat silage (moldy grain) It comes out in their milk. So candy is another trigger. Milk chocolate is out and so is just about every candy on the planet.  Why?  Because they have die in them. Die is not only carcinagenic but it also made with milk.  Die is “coal tar”  It is an oil based product. Since oil and water don’t mix they have to use milk.  They won’t label it as a milk product but it is.  So, with that I would say that if you are having a trigger of alleric reactions it may be the mold in your house or it maybe the vinegar you are spraying on it. It also could be the food you are eating.

Oh and another person I know had it in their dishwasher walls. I myself had it one time in the freezer seal. Glad we got rid of that. So you may also want to check you appliances.

Good luck finding the source. It is no fun trying to hunt it down.  Hope I was some help to you.  I know how hard it is to keep a mold free envirnment.  It is next to impossiable. 🙂 It can be done though.

           Blessings!

It is hard to find reputable people these days for any job, but stay away from inspectors or air quality testers who work for a realtor that handled your home sale/rental, they are often biased, and ask for references….then call some of the people and find out what they thought of the person.  If they won’t give you a reference then don’t use them.  Our guy was an independent who worked alone, and gave us references and we checked into him.  Once we knew the people liked his work then we went ahead.  Check yellow pages, look the name up on the internet and see what you can find out.  When I am checking someone out, I will put the name in a search engine along with the world complaints and see what comes up.  There are no guarantees, but our guy walked in our house, sniffed the air, and looked at the grill from the AC outlet, and before he even tested the air, he knew we had a big problem.  It was a big shock because he then told us every carpet and curtain had to be taken out and the cabinets in bathroom and kitchen and sure enough when we removed carpet and cabinets, there was mold everywhere underneath….it was really disgusting.  So just look someone up and do as much research as you can…don’t just take the first guy, if you have friends or neighbors ask around, see if anyone you know has used someone to test the air.  Good luck.

Just wanted to say there is a difference in the types of mold, some mold is just surface and can be wiped off, like that in the fridge seals etc….and in bathrooms – the stuff that is the problem is the mold that you cannot easily see, and that lurks around badly fitting siding which allows damp to fester and mold to grow under it, and in and around bathtubs and toilets where there can be leaks, and also in the a/c system, caused by not using the a/c properly.  One of the big problems in the house we used to have was that the people would run the a/c in the hot summer, then go away regularly on holiday for weeks at a time, they would then switch the system off, and then the mold would grow in the ducts….it is always better to leave the a/c working we were told, because that way the damp humid air cannot get a hold …so that is worth remembering.  The inspector told us that 80% of people in the US have mold and don’t know it…that is why it pays to make sure there is no damaged siding and that the house is well maintained, by sealing holes and checking plumbing regularly and maintaining the a/c.  When we moved we bought a brand new house, because we did not want to take on an older home again, even a new house after a couple of years can be a haven for mold if the  home is not taken care of.  So it is a big problem here, and it does not matter if you live in the south or north, mold is in every state.  If you have wood window frames that is another area where the wood if not maintained can rot and then mold can enter.  An easy check for that is to get a pen knife and see if you can penetrate the wood with only a little pressure – if you can then it is rotten and needs replacing.  The same goes for siding, our inspector slipped his pen knife under the siding and found rotten wood underneath, the owners had replaced the siding over rotten wood, and then told no-one, so we had a problem there as well.  People can be very dishonest and you have to be careful when buying a home.  We were totally unaware of this mold threat, in England the only mold you see is surface and it is easy to wipe off, it does not take over the house, because our climate is not conducive to it.

Wait, dyes are made of milk? I just thought they were chemicals that added color to foods.

I’m also really perplexed about the notion that fermented foods are good for you, yet some people are allergic to them.

*Sigh* All of this makes me look even more forward to our heavenly home….which will be mold-free, along with our glorified, non-moldy bodies.

That is a lovely thought Sue….

Sue,   Yes those dyes are made of Milk…. 🙂   The dyes are made out of coal too….  Which is worse then the milk…Surprised

They are made out of the tar of coal…    My thought on this one is “Would you want to hand your child a peice of coal and say here eat this?”   probably not if you knew that is what it was.  Coal has every color in the spectrum because it is black.  So they can pull out red, blue, green ect…  It causes cancer.  It is banned in other countries but the FDA seem to think there is nothing wrong with having cancer causing products in our food….  I am sure that is why they call it the Food and Drug administration.  Let’s put cancer causeing stuff in the food. People will get cancer, then they have to buy cancer drugs from us so they can cure it.   A viscious cycle.  The question most people probably don’t think about is…  What does the Drug Administration have to do with Food?   Shouldn’t they be seperate???   Did you know they are on the Stock Market Exchange???  Why would they need to be there making money?  It’s an adminitration.  They are making money from all those cancer medications that people buy to cure their cancer….

This is the behind the scenes look at the evils of dyes and other cancer causing things in your food.  So, I hope you don’t mind if I pass on the helping of Doritoes with a nice glass of pop.   BTW-  Carmel coloring is also a brown dye that is really bad for you.  It is the brown dye in a lot of pops, breads and puddings.    These dyes cause neurlogical problems in children… It also makes them hyper.  Go figure that so many children now a days are being treated for ADD or ADHD.  “Medicated”  by the FDA.  🙂 with drugs like Ritalin

I just thought I would inform you of the other evils of Dyed food.  I agree wouldn’t it be nice to get away from it.  I can hardly buy anything in the store other then fresh produce.  I even have to worry about that. 🙂 What pesticides are they putting on the feilds and what is the quality of water?  Even if it is organic they may have irrigated the food with water from a pond that was treated with 2-4-D and Floridone (Agent Orange) to kill off the milfoil. So you really don’t know what they are doing to us.

Ok now I realized I am talking about this and it was a thread about mold… LOL  Sorry…

I guess it is just as toxic or more so….   See, I found a common denominator.. 🙂

      BLessings…

Well…on the diet thing, I’ll look into it.  My DD is allergic to dairy and preservatives, so we avoid a lot of things anyways.  I was using vinegar to clean because it’s really hard on our lungs.

Inspection guy said it’s my crawl space…working on getting it out.  Frustrating, but at least we caught it early enough it won’t be terribly hard for them to remove.  Sigh.

Thanks for all the help ladies!

I am so glad that you caught it early, I would hate to have what happened to us happen to anyone else…it is like a nightmare…so I am very pleased.  Hopefully they will give you ideas how to stop it happening again or they can fix the problem for you.  Linda

The crawl space mold can be very bad. It can spread to all walls in the house. I would also make sure you check to see how it started.  There must be some moisture coming in from somewhere that started it.  I am glad that you found your mold source. 🙂

The preservatives…  My son is also allergic to preservatives I am not sure why other than they are a chemical.  I will have to do more research into that one. 🙂

He is also allergic to jams, jellies, and juices because most companies wait till the fruit gets ripe before they pick it. Some has mold on them. They just throw them in with the rest. Processing them and it spreads threw the whole batch.  So, if I don’t make my own then he doesn’t get any.  We notice that he has more behavioral problems if he has juice.  So we try to stay away from it.

Just thought I would add that one in there too.   Also grains can sit in the field and have mold on them. So, if someone is allergic to mold then grains can also be a problem.   Some people are treated for food allergies when they are actually allergic to mold.
