I hope it’s okay to ask this here, but I just keep thinking that someone here will be able to give me some good options. My daughter-in-law is expecting and she is in need of a long denim maternity skirt. She and my son, along with their 2 children are on deputation, raising support to help start a church in New England. So, their funds are limited. I just ordered my DIL a denim skirt for her to wear after pregnancy, which was a little more than I’d normally spend for something like that. So, I’m not really in a position to buy a new maternity one right now. I try to look for clearances or used on Ebay or thrift stores, yard sales, etc. I am planning to go to yard sales tomorrow, but a long denim maternity skirt probably will be hard to find. Does anyone know any place to get something like this at a reasonable price, even used, if in good shape. My DIL is tall and she would like it long and without a slit, size medium. Please PM me if you know where to look, or maybe even someone here would have one they want to sell:) Thanks for any help.
I think mine went to Goodwill already 🙁 And I am pretty sure it had a slit anyway. I have a larger size one that I wore throughout pregnancy using a belly band thing… it’s long and flowy with a light brown floral embroidery on the bottom (just in one smaller section, not the whole thing). I really liked it and was a bit disappointed when I lost enough weight to not be able to wear it anymore 😛 I think I still have it if you think that might work for her (I wore a medium during pregnancy as well).
Yes, it’s denim. A lighter weight material, but that’s what made it so comfy. I will go rummage and see if I can find it. I am pretty sure I have it still. I want to say it was a 14 or something like that. It was comfortable while pregnant for me, I just wore it low on my belly with the belly band to help keep it in place and provide a little coverage. I am 5’4″ and it wasn’t quite ankle length if I remember correctly.
Have you looked on ebay or craigslist? They may not have any without slits (those are harder to find cheaper) but it’s worth a try. Old Navy Maternity online sometimes has great sales and had long skirts too.
You can get someone who sews to put a maternity panel into an existing skirt. Panels can be purchased or removed from maternity pants. Or you can use a piece of fabric – jersey knit, knit with some spandex or lycra in it. I googled “sew maternity skirt” and there a several tutorials.
Thank you, Bethanna. I guess my DIL decided to just order a new maternity jean skirt. I will keep that in mind if she needs something like this again. She is out of state, so it is difficult for me to help her out with sewing something. What you mentioned would definitely be more economical.
