Ladies, ok let’s be honest I had 5 boys 1st and well a buzz cut only means storing a clippers. I’m a woman but I have long straight hair and really it’s either in a pony, straight with nothing in it or with one of those newer around the head headbands. Simple.
Now I have 2 girls and a LOT of hair things (which I will explain in a minute). How do you keep everything? I HATE (do to my OCD) just throwing it all in a container. I want all the binders in one spot, the burretts in another, and basically everything in a seperate spot for easy grabbing. So what do you have that does that?
Next – my 1st daughter was born with hair just like me thick and easy to manage! Well, my 2nd daughter was not blessed with my hair but with my moms, fine and whispy. I am having a hard time finding things that ‘stay’ in her hair. They always seem to fall out and I know putting binders in to often is not good cause it pulls the little bit of hair she has out. Have any good ideas for ways or things to put in a girls hair that is fine?
There is a DIY craft where you make the face of a girl and add yarn hair. You put the hair clips in the yarn hair. If you want it ultra organized use divided plastic boxes or an over the door type organizer. Here is a crazy idea. Use dolls and have one for each type of clip.
I have used all sorts of different things to organize hair do-dad’s (do-dad in the official term around here!). I usually just find little containers already in my house that will fit into the drawer or counter of choice and sort. I have thought of using a cutlery tray from the dollar store for sorting things into a drawer but my new bathroom only had two, really tiny sized drawers and there is no way a tray would fit. If it is something that will be on top of a counter and will be seen, I also try to make sure that it is pretty. I have used vintage teacups, a set of small apothecary drawers, a homemade barrette holder made from a pretty hanger and ribbons, small mason jars, baskets, etc. I have never had trouble finding things around the house that hold little things well. We don’t like headbands in our house, but there is a cute idea going around online that uses a round oat container that is covered in pretty fabric or paper as a headband holder.
Have you tried using the snap barrettes meant for babies in your daughter’s hair? That usually stays in reasonably well for my daughter with fine whispy hair. But there is nothing that I have ever found that is perfect. I just keep her hair cut in a cute little bob and it seems to be the most flattering and easy to keep for her hair type. I learned how to do the cut myself in order to save on money for regular cuts.
What about something like this makeup/bathroom organizer bag? Each zipper compartment could be a different type of hair clip/item. A great search is ‘roll up bathroom organizer’. 🙂 Hope that helps!
I am surprised Tristan didn’t mention her (and my:) Lilla Rose hair clips that hold fine hair that we sell! She has a link to her website somewhere on the forum. I also use a headband to keep the wispys back out of my face and my Lilla Rose clips in the back. Maybe she didn’t want to be pushy but they really do work well for lots of hair types.
I had a divided craft box to store bands, bobbie pins, etc. A fishing tackle box (new & clean) might work too. We also have one of the wooden faces with long yarn hair. It works best for bows, barrettes that snap shut.
Yep, trying not to be pushy! LOL. But since it has been mentioned…. I do love the Flexi clips and we’ve used the mini size even on toddler hair (fine wispy). I’ve also heard the trick of wrapping a rubber band around one side of a clip (any kind) then closing the clip in your hair. This way you’re not breaking your hair with a rubber band wrapped around it but it gives some extra traction to the clip if needed. Here’s my store (there is a sale going on for 72 hours, everything is 10%-15% off).
