*Sigh* I am rolling my eyes at the sub-heading for this forum (Mom’s Porch) where it says, “Let the Mother go out and play.” I soooo want to “go out and play” (either for coffee or to clean up the yard for gardening)….let’s be honest: coffee would win out!
I have had so many issues with Google Chrome lately. It constantly freezes and brings up the frowny-faced file folder that says it’s unresponsive and asks if I want to kill the pages. Here is where I really, really want to insert ‘I’ll tell you what needs to be killed!!!’ but I don’t like threatening my computer.
I am wondering if any of you have had issues with Chrome being very slow or freezing up or crashing. If so, have you resolved the issue? Please note: I have researched it a bit, and I have cleared my cache & cookies, cleared my browsing history, tried disabling my extensions (AdBlocker Plus and Web of Trust site advisor), and also did a couple of system restores. I have done full scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware Bytes. (MSE turned up nothing while MB did find malicious software a time or two and removed them.)
I do have an older computer (2006) and I’m running XP, but I have heard that other people are having trouble like this with Chrome. I’m not sure if this post is just “venting” or if there is really anything I can do. It’s enough to make a Mom wish she lived in Colonial times….almost!
I run chrome on three computers – two are fairly new – only a couple of years old, and one is much older—slower—smaller memory and processor—running windows xp. Guess what – that is the one that is always showing the freezing up page :(. I always thought the computer just couldn’t keep up. It has been much better since I recently did a massive purge and deleted about 10GB of files – but it does have a lot more problems with internet stuff like loading pages than the two new models. I also run adblock plus, and if anything I think it improves the performance of the browser since all those ads do not have to load. The only thing I would add to all the things you did is running a progam called CCleaner – I do that periodically and it seems to help with speeding up things. Google it if you don’t already have it – it is a free download.
I don’t thing that response was very helpful to you LOL but that is the info I have to offer 🙂
Well, in the long run, I think I really could use a new computer. However, I really hate spending money on anything over–oh, let’s say $100….I’m starting to hyperventilate just seeing that figure on the screen, LOL!
I have heard of CCleaner but haven’t yet used it. Does it do anything annoying like removing bookmarks or passwords or stuff like that? I just hate to have to redo a lot of settings and such, but that can sometimes be a good excuse to simplify things, like when I first switched over to Chrome or when the old Yahoo Bookmarks went bye-bye.
I know exactly what you mean! No it does not remove bookmarks – some of these kinds of programs remove cookies that log you out of pages, and that can be sooo annoying LOL. I use a password manager (lastpass) so I am not really sure if that will happen if you use ccleaner.
Overall I think chrome performs better than any other browser on my older computer. One of my problems is that I tend to get it bogged down with cool add-ons and apps etc LOL and I have to go back and delete a lot of those when it starts getting slow or buggy. I can totally relate to shelling out the $$$ for a new computer. When I bought these two new ones a couple of years ago, I spent a long time bargain shopping and I felt like I got a really good deal so that softened the blow quite a bit. Boy do they work great… I am not sorry that we got them.
