I found several skirts for my 8 year old at Cato. Unfortunately that is the smallest size they carry and their girls section is very tiny so you have to stop in frequently to catch the sizes you need…
JC Penney by us has tons of Maxi skirts. We just stopped by at a second hand store called Savers. They had tons of floor length skirts for sale for girls. My daughter is very skinny for her height, so we found skirts that were the correct length, and took the skirts in at the sides. b
I have a daughter who is thin with long legs, so this has been a problem for us as well. Most everything is made so short. Yes, there are ‘maxi’ (ankle length) skirts out there. I got a couple for my daughter this year. But, if I want to look for a dress below the knees, I go on Ebay and look for Rare Editions. I have gotten many of my daughter good church dresses from there. In fact, I’m waiting for one to come in the mail now. Here is the link, so you can see it. I was looking at a few different ones and this is the one my daughter liked.
I think it cost $10. If the length is not given, I message the seller and ask for the length before I bid. Yes, some may be gently used, and they cost a bit more than you’d pay at a yard sale, but I just can’t find time to do much sewing right now. I’m hoping to get back into it again.
Your post has inspired me to sew some skirts for my daughter and I. Maybe even matching! She wanted a long skirt for Christmas, but I couldn’t find one. I ended up getting a short skirt and leggings.
Sorry, I said Rare Editions. Many of the dresses I get my daughter from Ebay are Bonnie Jean. But, there are some longer Rare Editions as well.
Years ago, I made some matching outfits for my two older girls. I really would like to make a dress for my 11 year old. How did I have time to sew with three small children 20+ years ago, and now I can’t find time to sew with only an 11 yo. Probably because we didn’t have a computer then:)
