I am going crazy trying to find a decent length on a skirt or dress. Trying to fit 6 girls in skirts or dresses below the knee. Have looked in MANY stores and have been online days and days……Does anyone have any suggestions, pls>?

    Thanks

The stores and everything around here (small town!) are still chock-full of maxiskirts.  That is mostly what I wear.  If that doesn’t work then the big store sites (Target, Kohl’s, etc) online are full of them too.  They ought to be long enough.

Justice online has some fun tie dye ones.  🙂  My sil says they often run good sales / coupons so you may want to sign up for emails or something.

Also I just checked amazon and if you search by girls clothing and enter ‘maxi’ it pulls up many options.

Maxi skirts and dresses are everywhere in FL right now.  Maybe those will work for you?

Do you have a sewing machine? We bought one for exactly this reason – I had NEVER sewed before and I just started looking up easy skirt sewing tutorials on pinterest and taught myself how to sew! Skirts are fairly easy and even your daughters could do it – I have five and my 10 year old sewed her own.

http://www.pinterest.com/todogoodthings/fabric-crafts/ OK, trying again to post the link – this is maddening – mine never show!

I am struggling with the same problem (for myself and my 5 year old daughter). I had a friend recommend that I sharpen up on my sewing skills, telling me that skirts are super easy. We’ll see if I get there…(have not sewed on a machine since 7th grade home economics class, and remember almost nothing… but maybe the OP could try this 🙂

Well, now I’m eager to look up what a Maxi skirt is and thrilled to hear there are everywhere in FL right now (we are on our way there next week!)

I have nothing to add but empathy! We’re in the same boat at this house.  And like some others, I started sewing simply to clothe our 4 daughters.

We have had some good luck (occasionally) at thrift stores.

If you are not tall, Lands End has some.  My girls like their dresses and short sleeved ones can be bought a size bigger to get a longer length. Buying this time of year, and with sales and clearance helps cost. I bought matching dresses several times which was fun.

Yes, yes, maxi skirts! I bought 2 in different colors at Target for my girls within the past 2 months. One was on clearance for $7, and the other I think was $13.

Also, my adult-aged daughter found some super cute ones at an Eddie Bauer Outlet store that were $16-$18 on sale. Not maxi skirts. They were from their Travelon (?) line and are great for travelling in that they don’t wrinkle, fold up easily, etc.  Really  cute too. IDK if they have similar winter offerings. They also had this nice foldover waist (kinda like how yoga pants are) which you could adjust a bit to alter the length of the dress. But even at it’s shortest length it still covered the knees.

    Good luck!

Christopher and Banks is where I find my skirts. They don’t have girls’ sizes, but I’m happy to find some that I can wear! And their end of season clearance sales are great!

Great post!  My girls and I love skirts and I just started to learn to sew for this reason!
