Well said Rachel! Food is to be our nutrition! GMO is terrible! Soy, the way we produce it, is awful for the body! And it is in everything! Sigh!

Petitemom, I too get so overwhelmed at times…what is there left to eat?! But, we just have to do our best!

    Blessings

As I’m scanning these posts, I am dismayed that I feel I don’t have enough time in my daily life to look further into all of this. Even thoroughly reading these posts takes more time than I feel I should be on the computer. It is also frustrating to say to myself, “I thought I had that base covered, but now I’m reading that I should……” or “I just can’t afford to buy this or shop there, so now what do I do?”

For me, the bottom line is relying on God, pure and simple. He has led me in various places about what I can change, and I know I can rely on His word, which says in Mark 16:17-18, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

In those verses, the portion that mentions believers not being hurt by drinking anything deadly comforts me greatly when I think of how our foods & beverages are being altered these days because I can rest in the promise that, if I am unable to access food that is not as healthy for me as it ought to be, God can and will sustain me supernaturally. I feel as though I should seek knowledge when and where I am able, pray about it, and then follow a particular diet as God provides.

I also think of missionaries in foreign lands who are often presented with meals that may be new and unusual to them. Often, they simply consume these meals with gratitude, knowing that God has opened a door for them to minister to these people and will sustain them regardless of what they are eating.

I agree with Boookworm.  This stuff makes me crazy. As I was pouring another bag of wheatberries into our bucket yesterday, I had a nagging thought of, “Are these safe?  GMO?  What am I feeding my family?”  And I’m grinding my own wheat for crying out loud.

I’ve read a lot about nutrition over the years and every time I turn around, it’s “something else.”  While I would like to grow my own organic garden and have livestock, the truth is that I have 3 girls to educate and, right now, that is my priority.  We do what we can, it’s probably not enough, and at the end of each day, I pray for grace and for the people fighting for a revolution in our food industry.  They are working hard and, at some point, hopefully soon, the trash they put in our food will be outlawed.

Until then, we prioritize organic in the foods that matter most and lean heavily on grace and common sense.  And, I still bake cookies for my kids.  That I won’t give up.  🙂

Petitemom, I live in another state and went to that lecture in February. It was the same speaker/topic – he is touring. 🙂 Someone in our audience was very familiar with the TJ’s side of things. Interesting how that came up for you, too!

As far as all of the other posts about not having enough time to research, or concerns about nutrition fads…those are completely understandable! The non-GMO movement in the US is currently focused on required labeling of foods, just like all foods have ‘nutrition facts’ and organic foods have the organic label. Makes it so easy for the consumer (busy moms like us!) to decide what they want to buy. We don’t all need to spend tons of time researching food producers or deciding whether or not we like Monsanto’s corporate practices. If you see a petition for GMO labeling (or have a vote in your state) – it is really the solution some of you have alluded to. 🙂

Actually it was a she and she is from around here. It is funny though, I thought you might have been in the same room for a moment there!

I want to believe Trader Joe non GMO policy but don’t feel I can, they need to start labeling.

My hope is for Monsanto to be totally uncovered and for the non sense to end.

I know it is not going to happen over night but I keep hope and keep spreading the word…People do not need to be worried if the food they eat will make them sick.
