However, while not cheap, we like our central vacuum system. Beats all others hands down. This is our 3rd home with a central vac system and I’ve never seen any vacuum that’s easier, works better, no trouble than these.
I have a Miele as well. Going on 4 years. The last house we were in had brand new cheap carpet and it produced a ton of fuzz…for months. It blew up the first vacuum, but the Miele handled it without a problem. We bought some bags in bulk which made it cheaper and we still have 2 boxes left. In the current house we only have carpet downstairs so it doesn’t get as much work, but we do use it on the hardwood floors at times. The kids are able to use it too.
I bought a refurbished Dyson on WOOT a few months ago, and everytime I use it, I think to myself, “I love this vacuum!” I do not have similarly affectionate feelings for any other household appliance, but a vacuum that works inspires that type of emotion in me.
I’ve had Hoovers, Orecks, and Kirbys in the past, but I’d buy the Dyson again in a flash.
Miele here too! LOVE it! My favorite things about it are the filter (no smells or dust gets through), the thick bags (bagless? yuck…who wants to deal with the dirt again?!?), and the noise level…quiet. For reference we have seven children, a greyhound, a cat, and a wood stove. We also deal with allergies to dust, etc.
Mieles aren’t cheap, but we’ve purchased ours through a local vacuum shop and have been able to make payments. Also, the first Miele we got through them was an older used model, so it cost a lot less.
Another Dyson fan here! The reason I was so impressed with my Dyson is I actually did a comparison with my old vacuum that was okay (a cheap Hoover), it wasn’t broken but I had heard so much about Dyson and we have a dog and a cat and 3 kids under 3 years old at the time so I really wanted a clean carpet. I purchased my Dyson, came home, vacuumed a section of carpet with my old vacuum and then immediately vacuumed that same area with my Dyson, WOW, there was so much dirt and hair left in the carpet from my old vacuum. I was amazed and sad because all the years I was using my old vacuum I thought my carpet was getting clean but it really wasn’t….for what it’s worth.
Okay, I tested both the Dupont and the Miele. I liked both but the Dupont being bagless and the lighter weight of the 2 sold me. How do your children handle the 21lbs the Miele weighs? The 1 thing I’m not enjoying from the Dupont is that it doesn’t fit under any furniture…maybe I’m just lazy.
I have a Shark Navigator bagless upright too and LOVE it! Great price from Costco about 2-1/2 years ago. Still works great. I can go around the bedrooms (only carpeted areas) suck up tons of dog and cat fur (we have 2 furry dogs and a cat), then empty the compartment, go around again and get just a little bit more from all 3 bedrooms. Can’t beat it for the price – under $150 with the extra pet attachment and extension pieces for the on-board hose.
The ladies with the Miele’s – which one do you have? I need one that does mainly hard surfaces, although I have one floor with carpet. My mom raves about hers but is able to pay for the higher end model. I am desparate for one that does the job and still doesn’t break the bank.
I have Miele’s Artico, but it is so old I can’t find it on the website anymore, even among retired models. It is a canister model (and not a problem at all for children to use) and if my memory is correct, is was a mid or high level model. I think we paid $600 in 2002 but I may be totally off with that. We did buy it from a local dealer and probably paid too much. Good luck deciding!
