Have any of you been camping with a very small child? I’d like to go but not sure what to do about sleeping arrangements for my almost-one-year-old daughter. What is safe for her to sleep on? I don’t have a play yard/portable crib and wouldn’t buy one just for camping. Can a baby sleep on an air mattress maybe? Any ideas? Or should this just be a trip for my dh and 4yo ds? (Make my day! Haha!)

    Thanks!

Oh definitely take her! I do have a pack n play for our 2YO, but we are in a camper. I have to watch her closely b/c I fear she could fall down the steps. However, I have laid her down on a pallet before, which is similar to an air mattress. I don’t know if they are safe for a 1YO, but you could always check on-line I would think?

Our children all love camping. Of course we let them stay up late and they are up with the sun, but great memories abound when camping!

We have used either a Thermarest camping mattress, or just a twin sized quilt folded up for a one year old to sleep on.

We sleep on the ground camping on an air mattress and I just lay with my daughter’s.  They both keep a hand on me all night, or at least they did this past weekend at a bible camp.  Great for security for them and me but I can’t move much LOL

We just zipped 2 sleeping bags together and put DS (then 1yo) between us. We co-slept at home, and we wanted to be sure he was warm (it was spring and nights get cold where we are). When we took DD (2yo) this summer she slept in the tent (zipped) with Dad and her 6yo brother, while the older boys and I slept under the stars. (We put the youngers in the tent so they wouldn’t wander off.)

You’ll have a blast. I recommend you both go – 4yos can be a handful and I would want 2 adults around.

If you use a mattress look up standard safety advice – it should be firm, she shouldn’t be able to roll off and get hurt, etc.
