homeschooling moms!?! I have a sling, and I’ve used a Snugli before…that’s it besides the old-fashioned back carrier with the stand for hiking, etc. But what do you more modern moms think is the best all-purpose (I’m hoping for a one-size-fits-all deal) carrier? My little one is 3 months. I want to be able to do all the things we all do while holding the baby (or at least as many as possible 😉 – you know, walk back and forth by the table getting things off the shelf and putting them back, checking and helping little hands with pencils and scissors, letter tiles…write on the chalkboard, sit and read aloud, wash dishes, bet stuff out of the fridge and put it back, go for a walk and be able to push AND steer the stroller…My sling just doesn’t cut it! Am I expecting too much, or is there a better choice?? I do want it to grow with the baby so it lasts.
I loved my Ergo carrier. I used it until my littlest was almost 4yo when we would be out some place instead of a stroller (he was adopted and had attachment challenges so the extra closeness at that age was a great bonus!) I loved that I could wear it back or front, it had a little cover for their head and it was super comfortable for me- no back ache like I got from other carriers, even with a 45 lb “baby” in it!
A third here for the Ergo. I’ve used a variety of carriers (loved the Moby for newborns for ages, still like it for the earliest days, but you’re past that age). I can put Mason (age 3) in the Ergo to get him anywhere the wheelchair won’t go (think hiking). I can use it with Samuel age 18 months. I used it with Samuel from newborn age and it was a life saver! Front carry, back carry, side carry, it does it all, adjusts comfortably, and I really like it. It is actually worth the price. Sometimes you can find them used on Ebay or Craigslist but if you happen to order through Amazon remember you wouldn’t need the infant insert. Without it they look like they’re running $115-$119 right now on up, more with the infant insert. And I’ll just put a link right here so you can find them on Amazon easily (it is an affiliate link 😉 ).
I prefer Beco over Ergo for the longer body panel. It fit my body better. My youngest lived in a beco for his first 6 months because he hated to be put down.
For bigger, I love my Kinderpack. I can tote my 40# toddler with out discomfort
I tried several different carriers over the years because I didn’t want to bite the bullet and pay for an Ergo. All of them caused me shoulder and back problems. I finally bought an Ergo when I had my 4th baby and I LOVE it! It’s super comfortable and like the other posters said, you can easily carry bigger children in it.
Another fan of the Ergo here. We like the infant insert for our babies, but your daughter is likely too big to make it worthwhile right now, though we used ours till over 4 months with ds1 and probably longer with dd2weeks since she is such a peanut.
Another vote for Ergo! It just felt completely different from the other brands….greater comfort, less pressure points (basically none), easier to get in and out of, and I loved that I could even use it while baby was in a snowsuit (or almost snow suit) type of gear…
I loved my mei tai. http://www.meitaibaby.com/ I bought mine from a WAHM for about $40. It is super comfortable for long-wearing and I did everything from laundry to nursing in mine. OH, and an added favorite was being able to unwrap a sleeping baby with out any jostling.
I love the Ergo. Blessed to have a Storchenweige wrap which I use until 4-5 months. Never liked the Ergo with insert…but once 4-5 months Ergo is a life saver. My first one wore out after 3 kids. A friend very generously gave me her Boba. It’s nice, but I prefer the Ergo!!!!
I have a Beco Butterfly 2 I would be more than happy to pass on for cost of shipping. I used it for about 18 months and my friend has used it for the past 18 months. She just gave it back to me. If you check youtube videos you can compair it to a ergo. They are very similar, but a few differences that I liked over the ergo personally
The baby is “in” the carrier so putting on my back is a bit more like a back pack, they can not slip out. It was nice for me
