Organizing help with the Ipod Touch?

Does anyone use a certain program, like ICal, to organize your homeschool and day-to-day life?  I’m so new at this.  Someone told me you can do this.  It would be great to have a weekly school planner as well as home planner all togther on the Itouch.  I have always been a paper and pen type of person.  The act of writing helps me to process things, but now that I have an Ipod, I’m interested to see how I would like to use this to help me get more organized.

    Any tips?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi!  I just got an iPhone this week, and have been working on the same thing!  What I did was set up my schedule in Google Calendars.  It’s completely free, and very flexible.  You can have multiple calendars — one for housework, one for schoolwork, one for outings and appointments, etc.  Each calendar is a different color, and you can choose whether to look at one at a time, or all together. You can sync them all with iCal, following the instructions at:

    http://m.google.com/sync

It takes a little time getting it all set up, but then you can edit your calendar on either your iTouch or on your computer.

Now I’m hoping SCM will eventually make an app so I can use the organizer on my phone!  I can access the pages, but I haven’t figured out how to magnify them so I can view them easily.

I’ve always *thought* I preferred paper and pen, but really I just want to be able to see things laid out — I hate having to rewrite the same thing over and over. The nice thing about Google calendar is that you can schedule things to repeat any days of the week (click on “repeat weekly,” then check the boxes for which days you want), and then move it around on the screen if things change!

One bit of advice, play with Google calendar to get familiar with how it works and get your calendars how you like them before you start syncing.

    Hope that helps!

FYI, The CM Organizer does work on the iPhone and iPod Touch, though I admit you have to do more zooming in and out than we would prefer. You can use the normal pinch and zoom gestures to magnify portions of the page. If you double-tap any text it will zoom to the width of that section. Double-tap again to go back to the overall view. It may also help to rotate your device sideways to take advantage of the wider display.

I tried for a few hours to load my calendar onto iCal.  I put my basic routine on there, but for lesson plans, as much as I’ve tried, I’m still a paper and pencil kinda gal.  I physically need to write things down.

I use my CM Mom Planner (from here) for daily stuff (to do, appts, menu, etc…), but I’d like to have a lesson planner on paper as well.  I can only plan a week or two at a time, but because our life is so unpredictable and dynamic with our traveling, if my plans are too “planned” it is very frustrating and requires lots of changing.  Maybe that’s why I do better with paper and pencil.  I do end up journaling alot of what we do each day at the end of the day.

It is nice to have our routine or “flow” on the Ipod, it just chimed to let me know it’s time for read aloud and tea!

Yeah, a Charlotte Mason style education doesn’t lend itself well to being tied to a calendar. In fact, that was the whole driving idea that became the CM Organizer. We wanted something that could flex with life and not make you feel like you were always getting behind.
