I would like others’ opinion on whether this series is good quality literature or not. I just discovered them this evening and am thinking my daughter may really enjoy them. Does anyone have experience with this series or even any of the books within it? I thought it was interesting that it tells the stories from the horse’s perspective, reminiscent of Black Beauty (dd really loves Black Beauty) as well as the historical content.

Is this Twaddle? Would you get these for your horse loving kids? Opinions, experience, thoughts, all welcome! : ). Here is a link to them.

My dd12 is horse crazy. She’s been riding for years and loves all things horse. I’m not familiar with that series, but my dd has enjoyed all of Marguerite Henry’s books, Ralph Moody’s books, Black Stallion series, Phantom Stallion (twaddle-y), Gabriel’s Journey trilogy.

Thanks for the reply, Missceegee. My dd11 is pretty horse crazy as well. I am trying to acquire more horse literature for our library for her to read as free reads. I knew about the M. Henry’s books and Black Stallion books. I will look into the Gab. journey books as well. I wasn’t really thinking that the R. Moody books were horse books exatly, though, more like cowboy books. Though I have been planning on those books for family literature reads for a while now.

I guess no one has had any experience with the Horse Diaries books! Maybe I will get a couple from the library and see what I think of them.

My daughter just finished reading the first one (Elska) today.  She liked it.  I didn’t read much of it myself, but what I read did not seem like twaddle to me. I went ahead and ordered the next two from the library.
