I haven’t figured out yet how to copy links on my phone, but if you go to the free curriculum guide, click on history, in the box on the right hand side it will say handbook for that time period. It has History/Bible/Geography scheduled for you. There are sample pages to check out. They are very economical, too! I like that its a day-by-day schedule. If you have a sick day or field trip day, you just do the next day. Also scheduled are make-up and exam days. Exam qu are just narration qu. I’ve done guides in the past that scheduled by the week and if we missed a day, it threw us all off and I always felt behind. I think they’re a great asset, esp when starting out! HTH some:)Gina

I have a question about Ancient Egypt and her Neighbors. We’re (obviously) not following the SCM guide for history. (I say obviously since I didn’t know which Ancient Egypt book we were talking about here.) We are doing SotW v 1 now. If we listen to this (all day, every day it feels – the kids love it) and read many supplemental books for the sections, is there any reason to also read SCM’s Ancient Egypt and her Neighbors? Would it be highly redundant?

    Thanks,

    Shannon

I’ve never used SOTW, but my guess is there would be overlap. Can u view a table of contents of both?

We are just about to finish the first term of Mod 1 (my DC are 10, 8, 6, and 3).  So far, they’ve enjoyed Pyramid, Ancient Egypt and her Neighbors, Adam and His Kin, and The True Story of Noah’s Ark.  Pharoah’s of Ancient Egypt has been so-so for them.  We haven’t gotten to some of the others yet.

Letters from Egypt has been very challenging…I suggest you download the free sample.  There are 3 chapters of the book which will get you through the first several weeks of the plans.  After that you could decide whether or not to continue with it.  My 10 and 8yo are enjoying it…although I’m sure I get more from the readings than they do.  We sometimes follow up the readings with youtube videos or google searches so they can better visualize the information.

I also highly recommend the history guide.  It’s full of narration tips and the readings are broken down for you.  It also has wide margins, so you can write down changes or additional books or activities.

My children are 8 & 3. We started with SOTW and switched to SCM History Module 1 because we wanted to follow bible and history together. SCM is much more in depth in my opinion. Some things may be repetitive but I felt like SOTW went so fast we missed so much. You could start in Module 4 if you don’t want to immediately go through Ancients again.

As far as books: I second starting with the Letters from Egypt sample and then deciding whether or not to purchase it after you have read a few chapters. We started this books but switched to Sojourn in Africa instead. LFE was hard for DD to follow. LOVED Yellow and Pink, The True Story of Noah’s Ark, and Boy of the Pyramids. DD actually asked if we could read Boy of the Pyramids again on a couple days after we finished it. I’m thinking of getting the audio version for her. We are finishing Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors now and have also enjoyed this one.
