I have both sets of these books plus the Christine Miller books and they were all wonderful additions to my library. However we are now downsizing and are wanting to only keep one, maybe two sets in case we return to Europe in the future and weight will be an issue for moving. Which would you keep and which would you part with…it has been quite a while since we used them and I am interested to hear why one set might be more worthwhile and valuable than the other. All opinions welcome, I know we all have our favourites. Thanks.
Fwiw, I’d sell the SWB books. Keep Foster for sure and Miller if possible. I’m looking for more Foster and Miller all the time. So, if you decide to part with any, PM me. ;0)
Rebekahy, Hi I am looking to get rid of some because we are almost finished homeschooling and won’t need any until the girls are moms and that may not happen for a long time. So I am just looking to just keep the best books in my library for the future. My daughters are in their last year, so those books are just for keeper purposes. I have a big library and moving overseas (if we ever do, and we want to) would mean limited weight on shipping – we would not store any here because we would not return, so I am slowly getting things to only the items that are really precious and worthwhile. I value everyone’s opinion on here, so was curious which your favorites were…. Becca I will let you know if I part with either of the above.
It seems like you can find the Bauer books all over the place and for pretty cheap. Most libraries have them. It’s very hard to find the Foster books and libraries are no longer carrying them (at least the ones around me). Same with Miller. Great books but you can’t find them unless you buy them new. I’d say lose the Bauer and keep the hard-to-find wonderful living books.
My feeling has been to drop the Bauer books, I don’t find them as appealing as the other books, and now I am wondering if I can keep Foster and Miller or should one go….decisions on books are hard..so anyone else with ideas…should I keep both and dump something else? By the end of this year I want to have only what I consider treasures on my shelves..right now I have about 15 bookshelves and that is too much to move with..I appreciate the opinions.
Hi, me again! If you dump either of the two, don’t dump the Fosters. They are so hard to find….although maybe Beautiful Feet is still republishing them? Ask your girls which ones they liked better. If they agree on one, keep it. If they disagree perhaps they’d each like to take a set for their own homes. We’ve liked both for different reasons. Foster involves what’s going on around the world, Miller writes an excellent story. I like the Millers for elementary and the Fosters for junior high, but both can be used whenever.
crazy4boys good points I am wondering and thinking maybe I will keep both and then the girls can have a set each. I love the Foster books myself….I will ask the girls but to be honest they don’t remember them that well all these years later – having read so much other history – but that is a super idea. Ok I think Bauer can go and the others stay..good now onto the other books…
I love the illustrations in the Foster books. Her little 2-page timeline layouts are enough of a reason for me to choose them. And yes, Beautiful Feet is still publishing them.
If the Fosters are hb, definitely keep them. The new pb’s are so poorly constructed they’re not worth keeping for long-term in my opinion. Keep the Millers as well if you have space. Scrap the Bauer.
I hope I never have to move again. We’ve moved this library once when I had around 7000 books. Now with more than double that…well…I don’t even want to think about that.
Thanks Pollysoup and Robin – well the next move we make will be the last one – if we have to remain in the US we will take all our books – if we get to return to Europe which we hope to for our daughter’s sake, then we are limited – but either way that will be it. The public transport options for a daughter who does not drive are making Europe look like the place to go…not driving in this country is awful, I know as I don’t drive…so I do not want that for her. Hubby and I will seriously look at options next year and see what we can do. It is not a decision we make lightly as the world is in turmoil…but may be the best option for us.
I will sell the Bauer books, and keep the other two for now, then later I can sell one if I need to. We never did read the Bauer ones, so they are like new…it was one of those silly moments when I bought them – you know those mistakes that we all make. Thank you…Linda
