My daughter is finishing up Math U See Algebra 1 this summer. My plan was to sign her up for MUS Geometry online for the fall. Unfortunately, I procrastinated and it’s full ; ( She said she would really like to have a live teacher instead of just using the videos. We have tried another online class using Jacobs Algebra and found that it was way too much, so we dropped it an switched back to MUS. I am a little cautious about signing her up for a class that uses a different curriculum. Does anyone know of any online classes that use MUS or does anyone have any other suggestions. I’m all ears 😉
I don’t know any MUS options, but I can recommend Mr. D Math. My dd11 is doing a prealgebra readiness this summer and ds14 is doing full algebra 1 this summer. Both love how he teaches and are getting it just fine.
Another option is highschoolmathlive. I’m not sure the materials, but the same lady does singaporemathlive and I use that with ds8.5 and it’s wonderful.
I recommend My Homeschool Math Class. My daughter has completed two years of online math through their courses. Jann Perkins is a homeschool mom of three and teaches the online courses. I love that we pay by the month so you are free to cancel anytime. The courses use Margaret Lial’s texts. We will begin Algebra 1 in the fall.
We used Ms. Perkins for 1.5 years. DS14 did fine, but there was a LOT. Of chatting in text that was not related to class that was distracting and there were several students not ready for the material who slowed down the entire class. We did like the Lial text and Ms. Perkins, but the other factors led us to look elsewhere.
The text box chatting has ceased for the most part, but there are still distractions of unruly kids or maybe some not ready to be there. Our dd has done fine with it thus far.
Does Mr D Math that you mentioned have a similar format as Perkins’ courses? Is the cost comparable? Cost is a huge factor for us!
I noticed that http://www.schoolhouseteachers.com has his self paced courses available through their membership. If your curious, you can receive the first month for $5.
That’s good to know about the chat on Jann’s classes!
yes, Mr D is comparable in price. He has written his own curriculum and you pay $197 (I think) for that up front. If you choose self paced without online class, that’s all you pay. If you sign up for online class it is a monthly fee of $29. It works out to about $480 for the year.
