This has been on my docket to post for while and I haven’t had the time, but time is running. Please take the time to educate yourself on this issue. THis will affect homeschoolers as the SAT’s are being adjusted accordingly (the school board was part of it’s development: http://press.collegeboard.org/sat/sat-and-common-core-state-standards).
This must be dismantled on a state-by-state basis. Several states are waking up to the fact that this is a top-down, executive based, sub-par educational plan anyway in many ways, it’s going to cost them more than originally thought, sets up a massive date base system more extensive than any info. Gathering we’ve had before on children, it severally interferes with parental rights (not allowing access to curriculum content) and the assault on privacy rights and the state’s rights in education are severally undermined-to implement this, it had to by-pass the legislature so our reps. did not get to vote on it.
I will post a separate post about Ga.’s efforts. In the meantime, educate yourself and then contact your state representatives in both assemblies, whether you’re for or against.
And I’ll make the point that I was against Bush’s No Child Left Behind in it’s final form as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I think the gov. school educational system is working or that it doesn’t need changing-it does. But making the federal gov. stronger and the states and parents weaker is not the way to go about it.
