I’m new to this site but not to hs’ing. We’ve used Sonlight since my oldest (now 11yo) was 5yo. I’d heard about CM, but hadn’t really researched it until this summer. This year we decided to make a few tweeks and now pretty much are playing with Charlotte – though we’re doing a state study this year so don’t have a purchased curric.
Yesterday we did our first Nature Study. I’d been sick and needed to “go” so we went down to the bay, I handed each of the girls their sketch pad and let them go. (We had already talked about noticing details, etc) All four of the older ones did great. I didn’t expect much from the 5yo, but she did better than I expected. The first was a white butterfly she had seen (then she added glasses). We talked about if that’s really how the butterfly looked and I pointed out how I might draw “that small tree over there” and gave her the option of putting her book up and playing. Instead, she sat down in front of it and drew a cluster of leaves.
I know I have a lot to learn. I’m teaching my four girls plus one more, working on a Master’s Degree, girl scout leader, active in church. DH is working 2 jobs (one full-time, one very part-time) and going to school full time. All that to say, I won’t be playing here much, but I will be dropping by to browse and maybe ask a question here and there.
