So…five days after her PS friends were back in school, Kelsey and I started school Monday. She liked not having to rush off to school after breakfast and being able to do Bible study with me, but wasn’t as thrilled about reading and certainly not as excited about math. I had her start with “My Shadow” for copywork, and she did the first line or two of it.  I chose Aesop’s Fables for children for us to read the first two days, which I knew would be just a bit below her level but still engaging and classic reading.  After we talked about who Aesop was, she picked several to read aloud to me.  She was thrilled with how easily she was able to read most of them, which was my goal–to build up her confidence.  we started Understood Betsy today…we “buddy read” the first chapter, then she read the next 2 chapters, I think, while I working. Kelsey LOVES how engaging it is, and really idenitfies with the characters.  It was so sweet to hear her giggling, after all this time of plodding through boring readers and excerpts.

Math has been going okay…She has such a mental block that she hates math and that she’s stupid, so the first day we took a break to walk the dogs and talk about how she’s going to do fine and this year is different than anything else we’ve ever done.  We went back to finish the lesson, and I’m hoping things will get easier as the year goes on.  All in all we accomplished about 20 minutes of Bible, 45 minutes of English (both copywork and reading), and 20-30 minutes of math broken up into 2 segments each day. She was surprised at how fast she was done, but I warned her we’d be adding more things soon.  I shared my plan for the , and she was excited.  She starts her dance class tonight (I’m rushing to finish this before we leave!) and gets her hearing aids in less than a week! Both wonderfully exciting things!! 😀

I’m also enjoying my new job…what a blessing it is for my schedule, my stress level and my daughter to be able to work from home! 🙂 Hope you’re all doing well with the new year!!

PS How quickly do you think we should start adding in things like narration and science/history?

So glad things are going well for you guys!  Sorry I can’t help on your PS since my kids are still little, but I am sure someone will chime.  Keep us postedSmile

So glad things are going well for you!! Just my .02, but I’d probably start attempting narration pretty soon w/the Aesop’s Fables….they are so short they lend themselves well to beginning narrations.  And once you feel you are in a comfortable routine, I’d probably add in either science or history each day.  Just what I’d do:) Hope your year continues to be a blessing!
