4 kids, and a need to determine which history period to look at and they all would prefer a different time period!!!!
We are moving from doing AO. I am likely using SCM’s history guides, although I think I’d like to combine the Ancients into 1 year to give us a 4 year rotation….
Golf (did some AO Year 1 but not much… so hasn’t had much history) – thinks Ancients sound interesting, especially Egypt.
Foxtrot (did AO up to about 1/2 way through year 4, so up to about 1776ish) – wants Middle Ages
Echo (did AO up to year 3, so up to about 1690’s) – Wants the Early Modern
And I asked Delta (did AO up to year 6 – so just finished ancients again) – he is probably going to be doing something else – but he voted for Modern.
So this is NOT helping me decide on History for next year at all…..
Can you delay the decision and do a quick over view from Adam & Eve to present? *L* That’s probably not much help, but it would delay having to decide; it would help you fill in some “gaps”; it might whet the appetites so that they can all agree on a time period for the following year.
🙂
I don’t know if it’s a practical decision at all!!! But it might get your creative juices flowing. Feel free to disregard my idea. 🙂
Train Up A Child Publishing does all of history in one year with living books spending a few weeks on each time period. Might be worth checking out if you want to meet the kids’ request and possibly have a survey type year.
I think I would go with the choice of the eldest, since he has covered the most history and would be the most bored to repeat something he has learned about in the recent past.
You could also do 3 streams of history and make everyone happy. 😀
I would probably just start over in the beginning with ancients since you are only wanting to spend a year there anyway and it is a good foundation. Rome particularly had alot to do with the middle ages as well as our law and government. However if you want your oldest with you, you could start with middle ages Renaissance and Reformation to not be too repetitive for him.
