I am looking for a good nursery rhyme book.  I realize (better late than never) that my kids don’t know many if any of these and something just came up and they were like ‘mom why don’t we know what they are talking about’.  LOL  Oh, well.. I just need a good complete book to have on hand for free/fun reading.

If you use paperback swap and have a minute to look they have a lot to pick from but I don’t know which one to pick with all the choices. Misty

I am not sure which one is best but Robin P justed posted an updated list of books for sale.  There is a nursery rhyme book listed.  Thought you might want to check it out:)

We use A Treasury for One Year Olds by Michelle White. It has great illustrations and covers all the classics. HTH!

We absolutely adore Clyde Watson’s Father Fox’s Pennyrhymes! There are a few other nursery rhyme books by her that we love too, like Catch Me and Kiss Me and Say It Again. We also have this version of Mother Goose Rhymes. It has beautiful large pictures for my younger ones.

    We have:

    The Original Mother Goose

Favorite Poems Old and New – Helen Farris

Read Aloud Poems for Young People

(and of course others too Wink) but off the top of my head, I think between these compliations, most of your old faithfuls are covered.

This one is my favorite one.  I had a copy that was my grandmothers, and I used to read it over and over and over again as a little girl.  It’s the same one I read to my children.  🙂

Oooh….I’ve been working on a blog post about nursery rhymes and nursery rhyme books!  We use them all the time….they are a huge part of our day!

It’s a smaller collection, but our current favorite (we’ve had lots!) is Pocketful of Posies, by Sally Mavor.  http://www.amazon.com/Pocketful-Posies-Treasury-Nursery-Rhymes/dp/0618737405/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363824669&sr=8-1&keywords=pocketful+of+posies

She does AMAZING hand-made sets (felted, crocheted, beaded, etc.), then photographs them…and those are the illustrations.  It is absolutely gorgeous and has most of the great classic nursery rhymes.

I have the one Laura posted, had it since I was a little girl, and my children love it now, too.  It’s where I learned most of my nursery rhymes before I went to Kindergarten.  And the pictures in it stirred my imagination like you wouldn’t believe!  😉
