    Hi,
I will be getting the Botany book for my first grader and was wondering if anyone has used the notebooking journal.  Is it worth it to get it for the younger years…(1st-3rd)?  I don’t want to put the money into it if it’s not really good.  Anyone use the journals?  What is your experience?

    Thanks,
    Alice

I’ve not personally used the journals yet. However, I got my hands on the Anatomy one and it was WONDERFUL! Very well done – spiral bound with tons of templates, lapbooks, a schedule laid out for you – what to do when depending on how many days a week you want to science, etc. I was very impressed. I’m sure the Botany journal is set up the same way. Hopefully someone can share their first hand experience.

We are doing the Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day right now with my first grade dd.  I am so glad we also have the notebooking journal.  She doesn’t care much for the reading part, but she loves to do the minibooks and the vocab crosswords, and draw pictures in the little boxes.

I think if we didn’t have the journal, we would probably drop the book altogether this year.  It’s a great book, but I’m glad there is something extra for her to do besides just listen.  There is a lot of new information in those books and I’m sure it wouldn’t stick much without something to reinforce it.

As for it being worth the money… to me it is worth is becaue of what I mentioned above, and also I have 4 younger dds that will be going through it as well in a few years and it would be fun for my oldest to get her notebook out again and go along with them to do the advanced things that she is leaving blank right now.

I am using the Botany book with the Notebooking Journal this year with my 7th grader. The journals are just fabulous.

We start Jeannie’s book in 3rd/4th grade and use them through junior high.
