Csmama, I second what Questa7 said. My son has autism and sensory issues, he kept waking up every hour!!!!! one time he actually said to us ” I cant sleep!” bless his heart! but since we got the blanket he goes nights without waking up at all! there are others when he might wake up once and that is it!

These blankets are very expensive but Questa7 told me about Peace weighted blankets. http://peaceweightedblankets.com/Default.aspx The lady makes them as a ministry more than a business so they are more accessible. 😀 hth

Hmm?  my son is the same way. I think he has piled on the blankets himself. He has a ton of them on his bed. He even has a giant baxter bunny he puts on himself. He says he can’t sleep without it. Now I know why. LOL..  Thanks for all the ideas. I thought about making him a bluejean blanket but I thought it might be to heavy. Now I guess I will have to make it. 🙂  I was going to stitch animals on one side, in each square, and bible verses that will go with the character quality of each animal for him to memorize. I just have to get up enough of the blue jean material to make it.  Lacking in that department right now. 🙂

blessings to you all!  Glad you reposted this one. It was very interesting. I also have strong veiws and would hate to step on others toes. I realize I may but sometimes I am taken wrong only because the person is reading my typing and doesn’t know me personally. So, any of you out there that I have offended I hope you understand that we don’t all think alike and can be misunderstood very easily on here. 🙂  I am not perfect, just forgiven… (Hopefully by you too. 🙂  )    Blessings!  And have a blessed holiday.. 🙂

I’m so thankful for this forum and all the great ideas swirling around, regardless of our many differences. The weighted blanket sounds wonderful. I have a ds who would surely benefit from one. Thank you for filling me in and passing on the link. I’m wondering if I could make one – any ideas?

Csmamma….me too! And here is a link to instructions on making a weighted blanket. http://www.sensationalbrain.com/how-to-make-a-weighted-blanket/

The blanket we have from Peace Weighted Blankets uses a similar method to the beanbag method, I think.  She definitely uses the non-toxic poly beads (which are also fine for the washer/dryer). Not sure if she used the beanbag method or just poured them directly into the quilt squares as she stitched the blanket together.  Whatever she did, though, it is beautiful, practical, and has held up under HARD use for two years like you wouldn’t believe.

I’m not crafty, like you…if I were, I would have loved to try one myself.  Good luck!!

Oh, and be sure to check out the appropriate weighted blanket ratio for your son’s weight, if you decide to do it…I know blankets that are too heavy can be dangerous.  I think the ratio is 1 lb. of weight per 10 lbs. of child’s body weight.  But you might want to confirm that elsewhere.  🙂

Thanks, Amanda. I like the velcro pocket idea, so I could adjust the weight as needed. I’ll let you know how my attempt at making one goes- might not be until after the holidays. Thanks again. Blessings to you & yours. Heather
