I have a 7th grade dd that is stuggling with Apologia General Science. I purchased a preset schedule from Sonlight, the CD and book and when I asked her about her science, she indicated that she likes it, but it has too many science experiments. She is not science oriented. She loves birds and is interested in her own topics, but I wanted a more “structured” flow of science to prepare her for high school level sciences.

I already have Considering God’s Creation which she enjoyed last year. We did not complete the book since we did more of unit studies as a family. Wondering if that would be good for her again (unit studies as a family). I had “God’s Design – Earth Science” and she thought it was boring. I didn’t know if doing unit studies by topics during 7th and 8th grade would suffice.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Sharon,

We started using Beginning Publishing’s Rainbow Science which is a 2 year 7th & 8th grade course.  The textbook is written in an Apologia style but they seem to be shorter lessons.  My son does it 3 times a week-reading for 2 days and a lab the third day.  The nice thing is everything except distilled water comes in the lab kit.  I am not good at doing science experiments with my kids but he seems to like it a lot and feels responsible doing them on his own.

    Hope this helps!

    Blessings, Danielle

This looks great. I bookmarked it for a future purchase. My budget won’t allow for it right now since I already purchased the Apologia General Science new. Thanks again!

My kids are younger but what we do is get supplies for experiments and then get books from the library.  Right now we have a 7 piece dissection kit and each week I get books on that animal from the library.  Tomorrow we will be dissecting Perch, so I found some books on Perch and fish in general to read.   When we are done with dissection I found this site http://www.ellenjmchenry.com/id25.html and got the Elements to do Chemistry.  I was a Chemistry major myself and this looks fun and neat.
