  • Actually, it is more me than my kids, but I don’t like reading this book aloud like I envisioned I would. I’m glad it was free online, because after the first several chapters I’m wanting to quit. I usually would not quit anything that I just begun a few weeks ago, but I find it tedious to read and, well, slightly boring. :0

That said, is there a more fun substitute for a science read aloud? My dd9 is currently reading Jack’s Insects, so I’m not going to read that aloud for now.

    Thanks!

We found it to be quite tedious as well.  So we stopped and moved on.  We love all the Burgess books for fun, and Among the Meadow People and others by Clara Dillingham Pierson, and Parables from Nature and others by Margaret S. Gatty, many of these can be found at the baldwin project online for free.

Maybe it’s just not a good read aloud.  My kids and I are reading a chapter a day, but not aloud.  We like the book.  That said, if you don’t like the book (and especially if your kids find it boring) drop it and move on.  My kids that are reading it are 10 and 11.  I can’t imagine my younger kids liking it.

We liked it, but if you don’t I woudl switch to something else. Not every book is for everyone. We ar using a book I found at a used bookstore now called Natural Wonders Every Child Should Know. So far I am loving it.

Thanks everyone! I totally forgot about Parables from Nature. I actually have that on my shelf. I’ve not thought of it for our actual science read aloud. I just had it in mind for my kids to read independently sometime. Thanks for the idea!
