We are not enjoying the Story of the Romans. Want to get to the meat and potatoes. Allthis stuff before is boring to me to read. Do you all follow the cm History? If not then what do you use? Will I beable to do all the History he needs if we are doing Rome now. We all love American but should have world histoty too. Any suggestions?
What do you mean by the meat and potatoes? What do you consider that to be? And how old is your child? How many years you have may affect where you want to begin. We did do American first then went back to ancient. I know the Uncle Eric series of books has one on how Rome affects is today. I haven’t read it but I wonder if it might help you appreciate why what you’re studying is relevant.
The story of the Romans seems to be a little slow for mynolder kids. My dds 9 and 6 arent getting much. My sons 12 and 16 think its okay. I guess maybe when we get to julius Cesear it may get more Interesting. My 16 boy is reading Ben hur and enjoying it. I just wondered because I am following the cm Matthew- Acts for book quide, I need a guide lol.
We are supplementing with Famous Men of Rome. For some reason my ds (8) relates better to the way the stories flow in FMR. Hang in there. DS DID NOT enjoy the Story of the Greeks and that is how I came to use Famous Men of Greece.
@Zelena , I know this is an old posting but did you use FMR in place of The story of the Romans? We read the story of the greeks last year and no one liked it. (age 7 , 10, and ME) I am worried that The story of the Romans will be as awful, LOL!
My DD9 didn’t seems to gain a lot of knowledge from The Story of the Greeks, but yet, my goal is an overview foundation. I am curious how the Famous Men books compare though, as we move into the Romans.
