We are just two day into our new approach to educating our kids and it is AMAZING!!! I knew in my heart when we started schooling at home that CM style was where I wanted to be. However, it wasn’t until after two years of dry, repetitive busy-work that I finally had the courage to take the leap.

If I had to describe our experience in one word, it would be “RICH”. Gone is the drudgery, gone are the glazed eyes and the dread felt by kids and Mom. I’m not sure what we like best….the varied schedule that switches our learning from listening to doing, to math, to handiwork? Perhaps the great literature we enjoy snuggled on the couch? Perhaps the short lessons (15 minutes as our kids are just 6 and 7)?

I think it is the masterful blend that was put together by CM and presented so intuitively by SCM.

Two engaged and thoughtful children and one happy Mom. Beautiful.

If you are on the fence….don’t hesitate. I can literally see my kids opening their hearts and minds and enjoying the feast layed before them. This style is fabulous, simple, and beautiful. Our kids have learned more in a short lesson than in previous years with 30 to 45 min lessons. Truly!

It is amazing!  We switched to a traditional CM education last year and it was our best year ever (I’m hoping this year will be just as wonderful).  It’s great to see them focused through the lessons and excited to learn…not that both of these things always happen, but I’m sure they occur more than they would with a different style of learning. 😉

I want so much to be where you are but don’t know how to get there. I feel like I am going in circles trying to figure it out. Any advice for me? My boys are 9, 6, and 2. I wish I could have someone close to “see” it in person or have them sit with me and show me how to do it for our family.

I concur! I concur! Finally, I am loving teaching and I feel like I am leading, and introducing all kinds of exciting ideas… vs dragging stubborn kids through boring desk work, or wearing myself out with over-the-top unit study plans that rarely actually happen. Only a few days in using CM wholeheartedly, but already the kids’ groans when I say “time for school!” are subsiding.

Nagada, perhaps if you tell us what you are doing so far we can help with some suggestions. It isn’t as nice as getting to sit on the couch with coffee to chat, but we will try to help.

Oh, curlywhirly! That would be wonderful! So as not to derail this thread, I will start a new one when I have both hands free to type (whenever I sit down to work on the laptop, youngest clamors all over me.) 🙂

Thank you. I can use all the encouragement and help anyone is willing to give.

For curlywhirly and anyone else who would offer help, I did start another thread. Thanks!
