Good morning everyone! I realize the topic of my post is really gross, but I just have to ask: How do you break your children of picking their noses and eating their boogers?? I’ve told them how gross it is and about all the germs, and it doesn’t help at all! My ds-almost-6 and dd 4 1/2 are equally bad about this habit. Just this morning, I looked up and my dd clearly had something in her mouth. When I asked her what it was, she stuck her tongue out and there was a booger on the end of her tongue. I promptly told her how gross that was and made her get a tissue. That’s just one example of many that I could share…but I’ll spare you the rest.
Another bad habit that my ds has is biting his nails. He’s sneaky though–he only bites his nails when he’s laying in bed at night, so I can’t ever catch him.
If you have any practical advice, suggestions, or consequences I could use to enforce the breaking of these habits, I’d really appreciate it. Hope everyone has a happy day!
Laughing with you! My 3.5 year old is struggling with the nose picking! We are finally using the big-girl potty, so I’m picking my battles. I am all ears as to what others suggest!
For nail biting (and thumb sucking), I have successfully used Control-It with 3 of my kids. You can find it here – http://www.stopbitingnails.com/ . My dear friend, who is 40, finally stopped biting hers with this product, too!
This is not an answer but if we catch our kids and know for sure then they miss the next snack NO MATTER WHAT. Our reason is if it’s that good then you don’t need our snacks. Just an idea.. but it’s a hard one to inforce all the time cause I’m not always in eye sight. Hopeing to hear more! Misty
PS I am a nailbiter and it stinks. So me and my older son are having acontest. who ever has any white growth wins if one of us doesn’t then the other is paying up $5. If we both do we both win. It has encouraged me cause I’m a tightwad and so is he! LOL
I don’t know if this would work with someone who already eats boogers, but I told my kids that boogers are bodily waste like poop. If they ate them, it would be like eating poop. None of my kids ever did taste any boogers. They are disgusted with the whole idea. Maybe it’ll work. You never know!
