Hi everyone,
Next week we are going to be reading the account of Noah in Genesis Through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt (Lessons 5-8). I was thinking that it would be fun to build a scale model of Noah’s Ark. But I don’t get cubits and such for the math. Anyone know where I could find a simple model to do this? Preferably for free? Or do any of you know how I can convert cubits to inches for scaleing down purposes? Thanks everyone. 🙂

A cubit is 18 inches. The ark was 300 cubits by fifty cubits by 30 cubits. That means it was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet tall. Does that help?

Got the measurements figured out. Looks like our ark will be 4.5ft X 9 in. X 5.4 in.. Found a really cool conversion calculator. Here is the link to it for furture reference: http://jbwid.com/scalcalc.htm. I’m scaling it down 1:100. Just a brainstorm, any ideas on how we can get our ark to try & float? I am having way to much fun with this kind of school!!! School is supposed to be work, right??? LOL. And this is a gal who doesn’t like math or science (never made sense to why I had to do it). Well, I used to anyway. I’ll post a picture when I can. Goal: have this done by the end of the week. Talk to you all later.

well, not sure what you are building it out of, but “carving” it from foam or wood it would float. We’ve had fun building simple paper boats. (if you colored the paper heavily with crayons before building it will float longer). Interested to know how it goes. We have had fun making a boat out of blankets and pillows and getting in it with stuffed animals for our ark:)
