I haven’t used it yet, but I picked up a book called Our Mother Tongue by Nancy Wilson. It’s intended as a one year comprehensive grammar program for grades 4 and up. Winston Grammar looks like another, less expensive option.
Currently, we are using ELTL which is a full LA program and teaches grammar through diagramming, so I haven’t used the other two options at this point. I’m hoping to go through Our Mother Tongue on my own at some point.
I just looked up easy Grammar and I like the look of it. Thanks! Melanie32
HollyS I actually almost ordered Our Mother Tongue before I posted this question, but thought it only went up to grade 8 and wanted something that I could continue through high school. Do you know what grade level it is?
It would be appropriate for high school as well. It’s listed as appropriate for grades 4 through adult. In the introduction, she mentions homeschool moms (or anyone wanting a good grammar background) to go through it as well.
English Lessons Through Literature. It’s a newer program, and she currently has the first 5 levels out, but plans on 7 or 8 levels eventually. It’s a CM/Classical full language arts program.
The best grammar I’ve ever seen is from Classical Conversations. You can get an Essentials Guide to English Grammar on EBay. AG is similar, probably the closest on the market. But not as systematic, and thorough. It doesn’t rely on the drill, repitiom, and organization of Essentials.
