Hi there, I am a mom to three boys ages 9,6 and 11 months. Wanting to find a group of homeschoolers using the Charlotte mason method. Has anyone joined a homeschool group that meets for support? I am in Austin TX.
I have two boys 5yo and 2yo. You have come to the perfect place for advice and encouragment. I have not joined any HS groups yet. I have several HS friends so we get together regularly. I guess that counts for my support at this point. Hope you find other CMers in the Austin area.
Welcome!! I love this site and it has been such a blessing to me and my family. I have two girls, 8 and 6. We haven’t joined any homeschool groups but am open to joining a group if it fits our needs and schedule. I declined a science group this year because it meets on Fridays and we are going to attempt a 4-day week because my husband is always off on Fridays. There is another group in the works that I am waiting for more info on.
Welcome Mary! I grew up in TX but I’m not there any more. I hope you find a group near you. I don’t have a CM group in my area, although I have thought of trying to start one. In the meantime this forum is great! 🙂 ~Jenn
Hope you find someone near you. We’re in MO. I am also new to HSing. I have one daughter who is 8. Hope you find the transition to CM to be a blessed time!
I am in a homeschool group from our church. None of them use CM, but the support is a lifeline for me nonetheless. I get my CM support from online forums instead.
Hi Mary! I am also in the Austin area. PM me and I can help you find a group in your area. There is an Austin-wide group of CM homeschool moms that I have met with in the past. Also I have a 9yo ds that loves to meet other boys his age if we’re not too far away.
We just moved away from Texas, but wanted you to know that you may have better luck finding a “Charlotte Mason discussion group” than any kind of formal co-op using the CM method. In my experience, the co-op groups tend more toward formality and class room style structure, and the CM homeschoolers tend to be more relaxed and meet in smaller groups. In Texas, I found groups of moms that meet to discuss CM principles (monthly), and occasionally a small group of CM inspired moms will get the kids together for nature walks or ‘workshops’ in science, art, book club, etc… Most of the CM homeschoolers I know are a little more focused on the educational atmosphere of their home than on running around to different classes and groups. Getting in touch with other homeschoolers in your area is the best way to eventually find like-minded families, though. It can take some time. Hope that general explanation helps some!
