Hi, Tara! I’ll give your questions a stab and hope others chime in too!
A module is designed for approximately one year of study. So, no, don’t try to do ancient history through modern each year. You’ll study module 1 one year, 2 the next, etc. Yes, when you repeat the module, your older children will be old enough for some of the other books in the upper years, and your younger children will be on their first “pass” through that period and will be needing the books for the younger children.
So, if you begin Module 1 in the first grade, in second year you do not need to repeat Module 1–you just go on to Module 2.
Yes, Genesis to Deut. and Ancient Egypt will have lesson plans to show you how to go about doing this.
I’m not sure what you mean by overlap in books from 1-3rd grade? Could you help me out with which books you mean? I’m not able to get clear in my mind what you mean yet.
About geography. You’ll use resources like the Uncle Josh’s Outline Maps for all years. SCM has helpfully provided a “focus” for each year’s geography/map drills that you can use to go along with each history module. Many CM homeschoolers also include “living geography” books to read; you can find these in the CM Bookfinder. For example, my oldest son is reading the living book The Brendan Voyage; my middle one is reading Kon-Tiki, and my youngest one is reading Holling C. Hollings’ geography books. But for starting out, you might not want to worry about that, and just do the mapwork and drills. There are additional geography books listed in modules 4-6, anyway; check on the “Details” page and you’ll see them. As the terrific people at SCM get the Daily Lesson Plan books completed (only modules 1 & 2 are currently completed but the rest are on the way) there will likely be additional details.
