Hello everyone. I have really enjoyed reading your posts and advice. Charlotte Mason is a new concept to me. My oldest daughter graduated last year. I used a more classical approach with her and my 15 yro dd. I think CM will be a much better fit for my son. He is very interested in books and loves to be read to. I have been unschooling him up till now. He will be 8 at the end of the month. (Just a little background )
I made a huge purchase from Beautiful Feet. I am set for history and science. I bought the Early American history bundle, and the science bundle. I adore the idea of learning through literature. (Avid reader here). I have Shakespear for Children, 101 Bible Stories, two artist bundles from SCM, The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading, a very old copy of Of America (from Abekas, has some wonderful poetry),1951 edition of We Look and See, a 1950 edition of Up and Down and Bing, and a 1949 Edition of Play with Us. The old readers are lovely. I have several more, but those are what I’m using to start with. We have a fairly big library of Fairy Tales, books by Samuel Clemmens, The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, The World of Christopher Robin, and all of the Little House books to choose from. Our math program is Mastering Mathematics. Pens, pencils, paints, a sketch book, and a nature journal will round it out. I know I probably will not be able to fit it ALL in, but he asks to “do school”. I love that and wanted him to have plenty to choose from.
Now for my 15 yro. In my mind I would love to slowly change her over from classical to a more CM friendly way of doing things. She is doing A Noble Experiement from Beautifull Feet, Analytical Grammar, English from the Roots up, typing, and math (have 3 different curricula, she is still deciding which she wants to use) I have both Early American History from Beautiful Feet, and The Story of The World. I’m not sure which she will use. She is getting a huge say in what she studies this year. Also, she has shown an interest in Vet. Science. Anyone have a suggestion on what I could use for this. We have always had animals, and she has always shown and interest in this. (She has horses, cats, dogs, a bird, and now is purchasing a pair of sugar gliders) The practical knowledge is there. I just need to find a good curriculum and great books to go with it. if you had an older child who you wanted to gently change over to CM, what would you do? What changes would you make and how fast or slow would you impliment them?
Thank you for any help and advice you can give. Sorry about the extremely long post. I just have so many questions, and I want to do it right. You ladies and gents are wonderful!

In regards to your question about gently switching to CM, I thought you might find this post from Sonya on the SCM blog helpful:
Thank you Mrs.K. I have a feeling that post will be read again and again.

I really enjoy reading a lot of Sonya’s posts. She also has another series where she went subject by subject and talked about how to teach them in a CM manner. Very helpful!
