    Hi everyone..

First time homeschooling mom.  Thinking about CM method, but wondering how state testing is done if I do use CM?  I don’t want to start the CM method of homeschooling if my kids aren’t going to do well with testing..college too.  Thanks!

My kids have always done well on testing (87th to 99th percentile). The kids have weak and strong areas like anyone, and that isn’t related to a CM education, just to individual children. So two of mine have really struggled with spelling. We also choose to use Math U See and they teach things in a different sequence than public school so in elementary years my kids miss some of the math questions that haven’t been covered yet. Not a big deal. Truly.

Thank you for responding Tristan.  Trying something new, especially a new way of thinking/teaching, is hard.  I’m happy to hear that even with this method, the kids still do well.  Thanks again!

Honestly, after many years of homeschooling, I have found that testing is not the bugaboo many people think it is.   Regular school lessons are so limited in scope that if your kids are interacting with the world, reading, thinking, writing some, and doing grade-level math, they are going to do ok on their tests.    If you feel a desperate need, most kids don’t mind spending 10 or 15 minutes a day with a test prep workbook (my kids thought it was fun, actually), but it’s not really necessary.
