We just posted several new videos to YouTube that you might enjoy…

    Swedish Drill Demonstration

Charlotte Mason wrote about using Swedish Drill as part of her physical education program for her students. This sample from the Books & Things Seminar on DVD gives some simple examples of Swedish Drill that you can use and expand on in your homeschool.

    Sonya Talks About Twaddle

Charlotte Mason described some less desirable books as “twaddle”. In this sample from the Books & Things seminar on DVD, Sonya Shafer talks about twaddle, how to identify it, and choosing good living books for your child’s homeschool education.

    Books & Things Seminar Sample

A sample from the Books & Things homeschool seminar on DVD. Charlotte Mason taught that children can be most fitly educated using good living books and relationships with the things around us. The Books & Thing seminar explains and demonstrates those concepts and how they can be used in your home school.

    Book of Centuries Q&A

Sonya Shafer answers questions about a Book of Centuries, which is a Charlotte Mason homeschool timeline in a notebook. This is extra material recorded at a live Books & Things seminar that didn’t get included on the seminar DVD set.

Developing Good Habits with Laying Down the Rails

Charlotte Mason likened good habits to rails on which our childrens lives could run smoothly. It is the parents business to lay down those rails. In this video, Sonya Shafer talks about our Laying Down the Rails DVD and book, their differences, and how to best use them.

    Thank you for the links!

I do have a question as well.

I’ve decided to do mostly SCM.  The resources I have are working fine and are CM friendly, so I may stick with some of them.  I do wonder about Spelling Wisdom however.  The way Sonya explained it’s use intrigues me!  I am also wanting to follow Module 1 for History and perhaps Music/Art.

With that in mind, I am thinking of purchasing both the All Day Seminar as well as Planning your CM.  The Books and Things Seminar also looks great!  If I purchase these 3 would there be much overlap?

I have not been to any CM seminars SCM nor any others that may be out there.  The only reading I have done is on this web-site as well as the book by Karen Andreola…CM Companion…Gentle Art of Learning. I feel like I have grasped most of the CM concept/phhilosophy and I am hoping that the DVD’s  will just help with more understanding and encouragement.

Any insight is welcome!  I try to embrace change, but sometimes it is hard for me no matter how excited I am.

    Thank you!

The three DVD seminars only have a little overlap.

The All Day Seminar introduces Charlotte Mason methods and demonstrates how to teach each school subject using them.

Planning your CM Education walks you through making a custom homeschool plan for your family. It starts by helping you define your large overall goals then brings that down to planning your year, month, and daily activities. The Planning DVD assumes you have some idea of CM concepts or other methods you want to use.

The Books and Things Seminar goes deeper into how Charlotte recommending using both good living books and relationships with the things around us to educate children.
